Yoshinori Ono’s New Job is President of FATE/Grand Order Dev Studio
Yoshinori Ono, a former Street Fighter producer has a new job, and that’s to be President/COO of Delightworks. Ono gave fans of Street Fighter years of content, interesting design choices, and seems to be a genuinely delightful person. However, now he’s gone from Street Fighter to FATE/Grand Order’s developers, as President and COO. As of May 1st, he’s taking over for Akihito Shoji, who will then be a chairman and CEO.
27 Years With Capcom, to Mobile Gaming
Delightworks is the company that has produced the immensely popular free-to-play gacha mobile, FATE/Grand Order. They aren’t getting someone new to gaming, either. Yoshinori Ono had 27 years of experience at Capcom, starting as a Sound Designer (Saturday Night Slammasters). He worked on Street Fighter for years, and while his decisions weren’t always loved, he was nonetheless beloved by the community. He’s fondly missed.
This morning, Yoshinori Ono announced his new job via Twitter:
“Dear FGC, World Warriors. On May 1st, I will be moving from Capcom to another company. I’m going to be working at a studio that is a little different from the one I’m used to. I’m also going to be looking at development from a different perspective than in the past.”
The photo is of the Delightworks logo, with his trademark Blanka figure sitting in the “D”. Back on April 17th, he also spoke about the potential new job. By that point in time, it had been six months since he visited Capcom’s HQ, and he then spoke to the owner of Capcom about what he was doing next.
Yoshinori Ono points out that his new job will be a bit different from his work in the FGC, but he’s still looking forward to meeting with the fighting game community again. The official announcement of Ono joining Delightworks was made on the Delightworks website. It sounds like he’s ready to dive into the world of free-to-play gaming with a rich, full world. As someone who plays FATE/Grand Order from time to time, this writer’s very excited. Ono has decades of experience in the world of gaming development, so he’s sure to bring something new to Delightworks.
