Worlds 2021 Finals Shatters All Previous Viewership Records

The Worlds 2021 grand finals shattered all previous viewership records — and it did so by quite a wide margin, too! Millions upon millions of fans across the globe tuned in to one of the best and most mind-blowing Best of 5s in recent memory, and, well, the results speak for themselves.

Almost 74 million concurrent viewers watched as Edward Gaming fought through the utmost adversity. This is a 60.33% increase in peak viewership numbers over 2020 — an astounding number, no doubt. And it is made all the more impressive given the many obstacles Riot had to overcome even to organize a World Championship in today’s climate.

Even if we exclude the data from Chinese streaming platforms, the Worlds 2021 finals still broke multiple records on Twitch — the stream had peaked at a whopping 4 million viewers.

League of Legends and Edward Gaming are absolutely huge in China. There’s no other way to put it; a phenomenon, even. So it should come as no surprise that millions of staunch fans tuned in with great interest; fortunately, they were greeted with a sight they’ll cherish for the years (if not decades) to come. No one gave Edward Gaming much of a chance, which only makes their momentous triumph all the more impressive.

Onwards and Upwards

Riot seems to be shattering records every year. And when you think there’s no way they could ever improve on something, they find a way and end up blowing our minds even further. It’s been home run after home for Riot. By the looks of it, this big streak isn’t going to stop any time soon. It’s like everything they touch turns to gold, be it a MOBA, a card game, an FPS, or even an animated series.

As for competitive League of Legends, it’s been on an upward trajectory for as long as we remember. Its outlook is as bright as it gets. Well, we can’t wait to see what Riot has planned for 2022!
