World War Z Aftermath Announced for PS5 and Xbox Series
The E3 train continues with even more announcements that have been made during this crazy time. One of the latest announcements is for World War Z Aftermath, the next iteration of the zombie survival game coming to many platforms soon.
World War Z Aftermath Announced
World War Z Aftermath is not a brand new entry in the series but rather an unsurprising enhanced version of the already existing cooperative zombie game. Developed by Saber Interactive, this version of the game will include upgrades to the original experience to bring it to new consoles.
World War Z Aftermath is a new version of the original title for the new consoles that launched late last year, but it will also be offered to the current-gen systems. Announced in the IGN Expo during the E3 extravaganza that is going on right now, it does seem that this will not initially include the current gen-exclusive versions.
Instead, it will launch first on the older consoles of PS4 and Xbox One and on PC. No release date was given for World War Z Aftermath on those platforms, but we know that it will be coming sometime later this year for those systems first.
It will cost $39.99 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC when it launches sometime this year, but you will still be able to play it on the new consoles if you would like. If you have been able to pick up an Xbox Series X or S, or one of the PS5 systems, you will still be able to play this new version there.
Aftermath PS5 and Xbox Series Versions Explained
Even though there will not be a current-gen version of World War Z Aftermath available at its launch for PS5 and Xbox Series, you can still play it on the new systems through backward compatibility. The best part is that you will still be able to enjoy some benefits from playing it this way at launch.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will include support for 4K resolution and highly coveted 60FPS, despite being used through backward compatibility. For those who already own World War Z on one of the platforms, you can upgrade to the new Aftermath version for $19.99.
There is another option that you choose, instead, and that is the Aftermath Deluxe Edition. This one is a bit more expensive at $49.99 for new players on the platforms or $29.99 for those players who already own the base version of World War Z. This version of the game will include some weapon skins, a weapon pack, and four days of early access to the new content in this release.
What New Content Is in Aftermath
World War Z Aftermath essentially replaces the Game of the Year Edition by taking all of the content from that release and adding even more content on top of that. It will add new characters into the mix, a first-person mode that has not been available until now, and a whole lot more.
There will be a new class added to the game known as the Vanguard that will bring the number to eight in total, and there will be new perks that players can unlock for the classes. You will be able to visit new locations in World War Z, too, including three new story locations in total.
They are Rome, the Vatican City, and the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia. This will give you some new locations to visit and defeat the seemingly never-ending zombie horde with your friends online. Another huge new feature in Aftermath is the ability to dual-wield weapons in the new melee system.
Through this, you will be able to take two different melee weapons and wield both of them at the same time to fight off the undead enemies. There will be new moves for this melee system and perks to unlock. These will be useful in taking on the new undead rats enemy type that will appear, too.
When the Current Generation Release Will Happen
It seems that all of this and more will be available when World War Z Aftermath releases later this year on the previous generation of consoles and PC. That said, there is a current-gen upgrade promised for Aftermath, but it will take some time before it releases.
Like the previous generation’s version of Aftermath, no release date has been given, but the current-gen version is scheduled to come out sometime in early 2022. This will likely enhance the performance and look of the game beyond the already expected changes coming soon.
Fortunately, the PS5 and Xbox Series version of World War Z Aftermath will be made free to owners of the other version. So, if you are interested in checking out all of the changes as soon as they come out later this year, you can grab Aftermath and still benefit from the free upgrade to the new console version when it releases next year.
That World War Z Aftermath current-gen release will include an exclusive game mode that only comes to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC known as Horde XL. In this mode, the hordes of zombies will have hundreds more on the screen simultaneously, which was not possible on the older consoles.
This new Horde XL mode will launch later on as a free update after the launch of Aftermath. Be sure to stay tuned in the future for more details on the new World War Z Aftermath version, including the official release date on the various platforms and much more.
