Why Dr Disrespect Was Banned From Twitch in 2020

by in Entertainment | Jun, 26th 2020

According to a report from esports journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau, Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm has been permanently banned from Twitch in 2020, effective immediately. The exact reasoning behind the ban is not yet clear, but the Doc’s Twitch channel has been removed from the platform, and the man himself has not made any public comments yet. Keep an eye out, though, as this article will be continuously updated with additional details as the situation develops.

Dr Disrespect’s channel boasted more than four million followers, and he had an exclusive streaming agreement with the platform. The length of the ban has not been publicly disclosed by Twitch, but Breslau’s report suggests that it is a permanent ban.

Twitch Drops the Banhammer on the Doc

Twitch gave Polygon the following statement on Dr Disrespect being banned in 2020 when reached for comment:

“As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service,” Twitch said. “These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”

Given the recent round of allegations going around from members of the community regarding sexual conduct, it’s possible that the Doc has gotten himself caught up in something not quite towards. There is currently no public evidence that these two things are linked, though the timing is suspect.

Doc Has Had a History of Misconduct

Dr Disrespect previously took a long hiatus from streaming when it was discovered that he had been cheating on his wife with someone inside the industry. He made a number of lengthy public apologies before making his reappearance on the Twitch platform almost a year later to much fanfare. Dr Disrespect has, prior to 2020, been temporarily banned from Twitch for various reasons, including (but not limited to) entering a public bathroom at E3 and filming the people inside, without their permission.

This is the Doc’s second ban, with most times streamers being allowed to be banned three times before being permanently ejected from the platform. Due to the severity of this breach, it seems as though Twitch has skipped a step and decided to cut the Doc out entirely.

As of this report, Dr Disrespect is among one of the most popular streamers and gaming personalities online with 1.5 million Twitter followers and 1.6 million YouTube subscribers. It’s unclear if, with his ban from Twitch, he will attempt to stream on another platform. With the closure of Mixer, however, he has one less target and it seems unlikely that YouTube or Facebook will want to strike an exclusive deal following his behavior
