What Awaits in Wild Rift Patch 2?

by in League of Legends | Jan, 5th 2021

Personally, we’re pretty hyped for League of Legends: Wild Rift over here at Esports Talk. It cannot get on our mobile devices fast enough. In the meantime, we can talk about what you can expect with Wild Rift’s 2.0 Patch. It may as well be called “Rise of the Yordles”, as all five champions coming to the game are, you guessed it: Yordles! The update is more than champions and skins though. New features, a new competitive season, and so much more is coming to the game. So what’s going down?

Champions and Skins

Everyone’s favorite Yordles are coming to Wild Rift in the 2.0 patch! Everyone loves Teemo, after all. Right? Right? Anyway, here’s who you can expect in the game when the next patch drops:

  • Corki
  • Kennen
  • Tristana
  • Lulu
  • Teemo

So no matter what role you play, there’s a Yordle for you. Teemo Jungle is still a thing people do now I’m sure. There were teases of these champions for a few days, but now it’s confirmed that a crew of Yordles from Bandle City would be joining the game.

There are also tons of skins coming to the game! Not all of them are for the Yordles though. You can see the full list on the Wild Rift Patch Notes Page. But since we have new champs, you can look forward to:

  • Urfrider Corki
  • Super Kennen
  • Little Demon Tristana
  • Cottontail Teemo
  • Wicked Lulu

And several more! On the note of Champions, the Free-to-Play Champion rotation for most of January was revealed:

  • Jan. 7 to 13: Barum, Camille, Fizz, Graves, Jhin, Malphite, Orianna, Shyvana, Sona, and Varus.
  • Jan. 14 to 20: Akali, Alistar, Dr. Mundo, Drave, Jarvan IV, Miss Fortune, Soraka, Tryndamere, Xin Zhao, and Zed.

On a personal note, not my favorite champions to come to the game, but that’s okay. I imagine in time, just about everybody will make it to the mobile game. Or at least, all the popular champions. Either way, it’s a nice chunk of Yordles to come to Wild Rift in Patch 2.0.

Various Upgrades/New Features

Players will be able to reply to Pings which will definitely be useful. Some other features that are already in the PC version of League of Legends are coming, such as Dragon/Baron Respawn Timers. There were some UI improvements that were also made for the mini-map.

The Scoreboard had a bit of an interesting change too. Now, enemy information on the scoreboard won’t update until players have vision of these enemies. Makes sense, but may take some time to get used to for mobile players. Speaking of that, the stats tab of the scoreboard will have far more detailed information. This includes the damage reduction of armor and magic resistance items, and conversion from ability haste to cooldown reduction. Don’t spend too much time reading this though, a battle needs to be won!

You will also be able to access the most important part of your item collection, emotes! An Emote Wheel will be accessible by holding down on your champion. We are also excited to see that Towers will prioritize Super Minions instead of Siege Minions. Finally, Ranked.

Wild Rift’s Season 1 of Ranked begins on January 8th, 2021, and anyone who took part in Season 0 will receive at least some rewards when the season is over. That should be any day now, frankly. Of course, with a new update and new characters, we need an event! Yordle Expedition is a new event that will highlight the new champions, and players can find the new champions here.

All in all, it’s a great addition of changes to the mobile MMO. Wild Rift has a lot of competition in the mobile MOBA scene, but keeping up with the trends/keeping the game fresh will help it compete. Are your favorite champions in the game yet? If not, who are you waiting on? Let us know over on Twitter!
