Warzone Nail Gun and More New Weapons Nerfed

Raven Software has pushed a quick update for Call of Duty Warzone, focusing on addressing some of the most problematic issues in the current fourth season of the game. Those issues mainly include the guns that have been too dominant and/or powerful thus far, including the Warzone Nail Gun and more.

Update Warzone Nerfs Nail Gun and More

Several new weapons were released for Call of Duty Warzone as part of the Season 4 patch. The connection with Black Ops Cold War included releasing new weapons in both games, and some of them are among the best ones we’ve seen to date.

This includes the Warzone Nail Gun and more that launched as part of the fourth season of content. However, the problem with this weapon is that it has become too powerful. This has resulted in Raven Software having to pull back on the gun to ensure that it is not nearly as powerful as it has been.

When it comes to the Warzone Nail Gun, it will have a maximum damage range of 39% less than it was before this update dropped. That is a massive drop in range, more than a third less of what it was previously. In general, this is the only real change that has happened here, though.

Even still, it should make the Warzone Nail Gun a weapon that is far less useful for those mid-range fights than it was capable of previously. Raven noted that it is meant to be a devastating and fast short-range weapon, but its range went far beyond what shotguns allow for.

Given that shotguns are the main source of the counter for the Warzone Nail Gun, it does not make sense for that weapon to outdo them in just about every circumstance. The speed and range ensured that it matched those shotguns in lethal power but at almost twice their range.

This update and nerf ensure that the Warzone Nail Gun is more in line with the other weapons of its similar scope and power. Interestingly enough, Raven did note that the pick rate for the Nail Gun is pretty low, but it believes that it would be much higher if it did not take so much effort to unlock it through the special event challenge.

However, the Warzone Nail Gun was far from the only new weapon to be nerfed in this update. The other one is another Season 4 weapon, and that is the C58 assault rifle. When it comes to the C58, the nerf for this particular weapon is more relaxed and not nearly as drastic.

The simple change for the C58 rifle when you use it in Warzone is that the recoil has been increased slightly, and that is it. You can unlock the C58 through the Season 4 battle pass for free and start using it in the battle royale matches almost immediately after reaching tier 31.

It is an okay weapon, but one that is not that amazing overall in its category. That said, it has powerful bullets and strong range, making it worth checking out for some players. The speed of the weapon does leave something to be desired, though, but it does pack a mighty punch if you can land the hits well enough.

And last but not least, on the weapons side of the update, there is one more Black Ops Cold War weapon that changed some, and that is the FARA 83 assault rifle. While not as new as the other guns, the recoil for this gun increased slightly.

Attachments Also Nerfed in This Patch

While there are only three weapons nerfed in this update, there is more to the weapon balancing than just this. There are several attachments for weapons of different categories that have considerably adjusted in this update.

Starting, we have the barrels category of attachments and the Ranger one. This one is for assault rifles, specifically, and the vertical recoil control has decreased from 15% to now only 10%. However, the AK-47 Cold War version and the XM4 from Cold War are the only exceptions which will still have 15%.

Then there is the Takedown attachment for assault rifles that have similarly reduced horizontal recoil control at 10% for every assault rifle except the AK-47 and the XM4. From there, we come to the barrels that are both assault rifles and light machine guns.

The Reinforced Heavy, Match Grade, and VDV Reinforced attachments for assault rifles and LMGs have had their vertical and horizontal recoil control reduced from 7.5% to only 5% now.

And last but not least, we have one more set of attachments for light machine guns and assault rifles. The Task Force, Spetsnaz RPK, and CMV Mil-Spec attachments also have had their vertical and horizontal recoil control be reduced from 15% to now 10%.

In general, this does look like Warzone is trying to appease some of the complaints from Crimsix and others. They noted that the guns in Warzone have way too much strong control and can be nearly unshakeable even at longer ranges.

These changes to the recoil, both vertically and horizontally, could help with this problem to make guns feel different and not have the unbelievable weapon control that they have had up until this point. For now, though, we will have to wait and see how the community takes to these major changes for both assault rifles and LMGs and the nerf for the Nail Gun special SMG.
