Warzone CX-9 SMG Randomly Released: How to Unlock

by in Call of Duty | Aug, 4th 2021

Call of Duty Warzone is continuing to get new content, but what is surprising about the latest addition is that it is not part of its connection with Black Ops Cold War. Instead, this latest gun is a Modern Warfare weapon with the Warzone CX-9 SMG.

Warzone Randomly Gets a New Weapon

Out of nowhere, Warzone received its first new weapon in collaboration with Modern Warfare in months. While new weapons are pretty common in the battle royale Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare is a game that is mostly long past its set of free post-launch content.

So, while the Warzone CX-9 SMG is exciting news for battle royale players with a new SMG gun to check out and unlock, this also means that Modern Warfare players also have something to look forward to this week. So, players who prefer the 2019 Call of Duty game over Cold War might be happy to know this.

The Warzone CX-9 SMG is not too surprising overall as it was leaked many months ago in the backend of the game, noting that it was likely to come at some point. However, so much time has passed since the weapon’s initial data mining that it seemed like it might be some canceled content.

Fortunately, that is not the case, as the new Warzone CX-9 SMG is here to stay. It has arrived just in time for the end of Season 4 content for the battle royale game. A new season is on the horizon very soon. This is a great way to tie players over until then.

That is because you will not be able to use the Warzone CX-9 SMG immediately in your loadouts now that it is out. You will have to unlock it in the game, and this may be worth it for some SMG fans as this is one of the most powerful close combat submachine guns to date. Here’s what you need to know about how to get it.

How to Unlock the Warzone CX-9

The Warzone CX-9 SMG is described in the game as having excellent maneuverability and a fast fire rate, making this weapon well worth using, especially in short-range fights. It is a fast weapon that works well, too, meaning that you can devastate enemies that are too close for comfort.

However, the one downside to the Warzone CX-9 SMG is its range. It does not have much range at all, even when compared to some of its SMG counterparts, which mainly makes it useful for close-range. That said, when paired with the right longer-ranged weapon, it can be a solid combo.

You will find that to use the new SMG gun in battle as part of your loadout. You will need to complete an in-game challenge first. Fortunately, this is also one of the easiest and shortest missions that we have seen for a weapon.

All you need to do is get two long-shot kills with an SMG weapon in five different matches in total. Long shot kills are the ones where you are much further away from the enemy player than you would normally want to be when using that sort of weapon.

This can happen with most weapon types, from assault rifles to tactical rifles to even SMGs. Unfortunately, the tricky part here is determining what counts as a long shot. This will vary from weapon category to category and sometimes even from gun to gun within the same group, making it rather difficult to nail down.

However, fortunately, there are some solid SMG guns that I most often use since they are great for long-range fights. Bear in mind, though, that there are two main points to remember. First up, there is the fact that you can complete this mission in either Modern Warfare or Warzone; it is the same challenge in both places.

Secondly, there is the fact that you must get two long shots in each of the five matches that you do. Getting one long shot kill is fairly simple in most matches, but getting two can be extremely difficult, depending on the SMG that you are using for the fights.

In this way, some arguments can be made for this CX-9 challenge in both Modern Warfare and Warzone. On the Modern Warfare side, you have the benefit of doing this in something like Team Deathmatch where you have decently-sized maps that you can spend time trying to get two long-shot kills in.

On the other hand, I would argue that Warzone has the better selection of SMGs overall in which you can get the two long-shot kills in a match. The Black Ops Cold War guns are there, like the AK-74u and the MP5 that have some solid range and are what I use to get something like this done.

The problem with Warzone, of course, is that you have some long ranges usually here in terms of fights, given how big Verdansk is. Furthermore, getting one of these kills is not enough, as you will need to make sure you get two of them done in every battle royale match and complete that match entirely for it to count.

As such, there is, thankfully, an alternative method of unlocking the Warzone CX-9 SMG if you do not have the time to go through this mission or do not want to bother with it. Like other weapons requiring a challenge, you can instantly unlock it by purchasing the Soap MacTavish operator bundle launched in Warzone and Modern Warfare.

It, unfortunately, costs 2400 points (around $24), which is a fair amount for a weapon bundle. Still, it does come with many items like the Soap operator skin, CX-9 weapon blueprint, a couple of other weapon blueprints, a charm, a calling card, and other cosmetic items.
