Vainglory All Stars Could Make It as an Esport

Vainglory is an awesome MOBA for mobile, tablet and PC with some truly fantastic characters. Much in the way as other games before it, the Vainglory team is looking to bring some of those characters into another medium: enter Vainglory All Stars, and it could join the esports world!

Vainglory All Stars is a 3-vs-3 action brawler, set in the already familiar universe of Vainglory. It will launch on Android and iOS platforms this spring and sounds like it is like Brawl Stars. It uses a joystick to move the brawlers. According to some gameplay footage, it seems like every brawler has an auto-attack, as well as a damage ability.

Brawl Stars Holds This Genre Down

Brawl Stars is launching a global esports tournament, the Brawl Stars Championship 2020. The question though is that if Bazooka Tango is going to want to enter that genre that Brawl Stars could very well be dominating as we speak.

“Esports is something we talk about often. We obviously have a ton of experience there. There aren’t a lot of mobile games that have been able to generate and sustain the scale Vainglory achieved within esports, and we were there right from the start,” said Bo Daly, co-founder of Bazooka Tango. “We saw it grow and the landscape evolve.”

Daly was the founding CEO of Super Evil Mega Corp, which developed Vainglory. Vainglory’s esports, at its peak, had some very serious teams competing: Team SoloMid (TSM), Cloud9, G2 Esports, and many more. Daly would like to see Vainglory All Stars esports, but he wants the community to make that decision.

“Being so close to esports for so many years, we definitely believe defining your game as an esport early is just a recipe for failure. Players don’t care if you say it is one. But if you build a great game, allow players to partner up and compete, they’re going to find a way to formalize that.”

Bazooka Tango also announced $2.5 million in funding led by BITKRAFT Esports Ventures. Founded by Jens Hilgers in 2017, Hilgers is also the founder of ESL and co-founder/chairman of G2 Esports. Daly pointed out that most of their games will tread about the esports space. However, players will determine if it will have an actual esports presence.

Now I love Vainglory’s characters, so seeing Vainglory All Stars becoming an esport would be fantastic. Competition breeds better matches and innovation in the esports space. So, if Brawl Stars had another game to compete against, and perhaps even take ideas from, both games could ultimately grow and make things better for fans and players alike.
