Ubisoft Postpones The 2021 Six Invitational Over France Travel Restrictions

Earlier today, Ubisoft made an announcement regarding the upcoming Rainbow Six 2021 Six Invitational. Unfortunately, the news isn’t good. The event has been postponed to a later date with more information bound to surface in the coming days and weeks.
“On January 29th, the French Prime Minister announced that the French borders would be closed to all non-EU travelers. Following this announcement, Ubisoft, alongside our partner Live Nation, have been working tirelessly to find solutions to organize the physical edition of the Six Invitational 2021 in Paris, France in February, as initially planned. However, we have now learned that LAN esports events are no longer possible in today’s context, despite the strict sanitary measures put in place. Consequently, we have no choice but to postpone the Six Invitational 2021 to a later date.”
Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all we know at the moment. Ubisoft stated that they’ll continue to discuss the situation with organizations and look for the optimal solutions going forward. However, this does not answer any concrete questions the fans and everyone involved in the R6 community have over the postponed 2021 Six Invitational.

We thank you all for your immense support and understanding.
This news comes as no surprise; everyone expected it from the moment the French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, announced new travel restrictions. The restrictions imposed a strict travel ban for all non-EU countries, meaning the future of the 2021 Six Invitational was sealed roughly two weeks before the kickoff. These new travel restrictions meant a whopping 17 out of 20 participating teams wouldn’t be able to compete in the event.
The thing is, Six Invitationals are typically held in Montreal, Canada, but were moved to Paris, France because of more lenient border restrictions. Well, well, well; how the turntables…
What’s going to happen with the prize pool, seeing as it’s partially crowd-funded through the Road to SI battle pass sales?
Just like everything else regarding the postponing of the 2021 R6 Six Invitational, the prize pool info hasn’t been properly addressed. But, a massive company like Ubisoft won’t just make a run for it with the money. The new 2021 Six Invitational event is going to have the same prize pool the initial one was supposed to have.
