Top 2 NAE Fortnite Duos Accused of Teaming During Competitive Matches

Why battle each other, when you can work together to set up victories? Because that’s cheating, that’s why! Sounds like two of the top NA East Fortnite duos have been accused of cheating! They were allegedly spotted cooperating in a recent match. What were they doing to “cheat,” though? We’re giving you the details right here!

Cheaters Never Prosper (Hopefully)

So, the No. 1 Ranked duo of Slackes and Keys and the No. 2 Ranked duo of Kreorr and Envy Bucke allegedly cheated in several games. It’s disgusting and goes against the spirit of the game. No matter whether you think Battle Royale games can (or even are) esports at all, this goes a great deal towards harming the popular opinion of the game.

The two Fortnite duos were caught cheating in competitive matches by abusing the Storm Surge mechanic. These two duos were allegedly spotted working together to take damage from each other, to avoid storm surge damage this weekend. So, for those who aren’t aware, here’s what Storm Surge is.

Storm Surge is a mechanic in competitive Fortnite matches where players who deal the least amount of damage will sometimes receive damage until the storm surge ends, or until they deal enough damage to no longer be the lowest on the DPS charts. So, you don’t want to be the weakest link, or you’ll start taking damage from the storm surge!

Some clips shared online show the duos abusing the unlimited shields supplied by the waters of Slurpy Swamp, to deal non-lethal damage to each other. This lets both teams benefit from increased damage, without risk of death in-game.

Envy Bucke posted a TwitLonger to defend himself, claiming that they weren’t teaming. “Even when other teams land at Slurpy Swamp, we bloom battle them because there’s unlimited shield,” Bucke said. “There have been multiple times in scrims/tournaments where we kill each other because we’ll get triple dinked or naded.”

The videos showed online still show suspicious behavior that doesn’t add up to Envy Bucke’s TwitLonger. A Fortnite pro, Liquid Chap weighed in on the Fortnite competitive cheating during a Twitch stream.

“There is no excuse. They target swapped. Kreorr would break one shield and then swap to the other. They were editing windows, sitting still, and shooting each other in the head. There is no excuse. That is just plain teaming. They didn’t make it look legit at all.”

I will say that Epic is pretty no-nonsense when it comes to cheating, especially on such a big stage like this. When it gets this much traction and social notice, they almost have to do something. In the past, Epic has banned over 1,200 accounts during the Fortnite World Cup qualifiers alone. What kind of punishment could this have? Teaming carries a penalty from a two-week suspension or even a permanent ban from competitive play.

Now on a personal note, I’m zero-tolerance on cheating in competitive play. It’s one thing to give yourself more exp in a single-player game, but to take advantage of things in a ranked/competitive match and cheat, whether it’s Fortnite or CoD, it’s still disgusting. I don’t care if it’s a “hot take”, but if this is true, they ought to simply be banned. People don’t “learn their lesson” from stuff like this. People who cheat don’t respect the game, and shouldn’t have the privilege to continue to abuse it. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing a permanent ban if I can be honest.

The “it’s just a game” argument doesn’t hold water when money can potentially be on the line. But what do you think? Should they just be suspended if this is true, or does it need to be something a bit harsher?
