TI8 Day 3 Main Event – Updates and Brackets

Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid were both knocked down to the lower brackets! That is correct! Two teams that were dominant this year have both been knocked down to the lower brackets. OG took down Evil Geniuses in their best of 3 match with a score of 2-1 while Liquid got beat by PSG.LGD 2-0!

I cannot deny, I did not see that coming at all since Liquid and EG have been looking like goliaths this entire tournament. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean these teams are out of the running.

It is merely a setback since it will be far more difficult for them now since they need to fight out of the lower brackets, These two teams also lost their extra life which means they cannot lose to any other teams or they are out. Liquid did come back from the Lower Brackets last year at TI7 though so I would not count them out.

TI8 Day 3 Main Event – The Lower Bracket Update

Aside from the new additions to the Lower Bracket, some interesting situations occurred. VGJ.Storm beat Winstrike 2-0, even with a penalty of not having a coach during their games. VGJ.Storm received the penalty from a “supposed” group stage misunderstanding relating to additional coaches during the draft phase.

VGJ.Storm ended up having their manager Jack in the booth with them, and the suggestion he gave of Venomancer got used. He may not be a coach, but he Jack contributed a worthwhile pick suggestion. VGJ ended up winning nicely, and SVG noted how the coaches aren’t everything, but rather the atmosphere.

That was a critical thought to talk about since many times the real atmosphere of who is in the booth plays a significant role in people’s performance. When trying to figure out every little detail about an esport, the actual booth vibe is a big thing to consider.

A very impressive display by VGJ winning 2-0 without a coach, Team Secret put on a “how-to” workshop verse Vici Gaming after their first loss. Team Secret went back, adapted their strategy, then took it to Vici Gaming who continued their same strat.

Things didn’t work out for Vici since Secret ended up winning and sending them home. Whoops. TI8 Day 3 Main Event showed us that you couldn’t just do the same thing because it worked the first game. You need to continually adapt based on what your opponents are doing as well, not just stick to the plan it would seem.

TI8 Day 3 Main Event Wrap Up

Overall TI8 Day 3 Main Event proved to be extremely important to the overall tournament since the two main teams just got knocked down to the lower brackets. That means it is anyone’s game at this point and PSG.LGD is looking excellent during the main stage. When PSG and OG meet in battle, fates will get decided.

Would be great to see if Evil Geniuses or Team Liquid can fight their way out of the lower brackets, but, there is some heavy competition. At this point, every game played is of utmost importance, and I still hold on to seeing OpTic vs. EG. If OpTic can break through Virtus.pro to get to them, that is.

As we go into the final days of the Main Event stage, we are definitely in store for many amazing matches! Who will take home first place and their share of the 25+ million prize pool? Well, we will have to find out! Until next time folks.
