The Syman CS:GO Match Fixing Scandal: Continuing Controversy
Hey everybody, welcome back to our continuing coverage of the team Syman match fixing scandal taking place in Russia. If you haven’t heard about it, check out our daily recap from yesterday.
New Updates in the Syman Match Fixing Scandal
All bets on the teams match against fellow Russian team ESPADA were canceled yesterday after a clip surfaced from a match where Syman player Ramazan “Ramz1k” Bashizov is seen standing still and allowing himself to get killed by the members of the opposing team.
While an investigation has been started into the match, and the community has been quick to pounce on Ramz1k, many fellow pros and analysts came out strongly in defense of the young AWPer. Ukranian analyst Ceh9 has created a video breaking down the whole situation (warning: video is in Russian).
Fellow Pros Come to Syman’s Aid
ESPADA player Alexey “OverDrive” Birukov has also come to Ramz1k’s defense. In a statement on Russian social media platform VK, OverDrive discussed how Syman hadn’t practiced since qualifying for the Minor, and were extremely rusty. He also mentioned how Ramz1k was already well off financially, and that none of the players on that team would throw a game and possibly their spot at the minor for such little financial gain. He also mentioned Ramz1k had previously spilled soda on his keyboard, and from time to time experienced severe lag with it, which allegedly happened in the clip.
While the exact amount bet is unknown, Overdrive mentions that no player would risk their entire career over $10,000, so it’s estimated to be around that point. It should be mentioned, however, that players have thrown games in the past for less, as in the case of former team iBUYPOWER back in 2015. It’s also confusing why Ramz1k, if having major lag issues with his keyboard, hasn’t attempted to swap it out yet, especially with how it can impact performance.
With arguments from both sides still ongoing, we’ll have to wait until the investigation is complete to see what really happened and if Syman will be excluded from their earned Minor spot. We’ll continue to keep you updated as the situation develops, so stick with us for updates on the Syman match fixing scandal.
