The Overwatch Archives Event 2021 Starting Soon?
My favorite part of Overwatch so far was easily the first Archives event, so 2021’s will probably continue to enchant me. This all began as Overwatch Uprising and had players teaming up in a PVE event that tells a portion of the Overwatch canon. Now called Overwatch Archives, the 2021 event is likely on the way, and as always, should have lore to explore, awesome skins to pick up, and excellent PVE missions to take on. We don’t have an exact date on when it will start, but there’s a likely chance we’ll see it before long.
Not The First, Not The Last – Hopefully
Uprising, Retribution, and Storm Rising were all quality stories. They fit neatly into the Overwatch Canon and are a part of the Overwatch Archive event, so hopefully, this trend continues in 2021. I genuinely wish we had more information about the skins, for example. Hopefully, it will be characters that don’t have canon outfits in this event. Presently, we have Talon skins for Widowmaker, Doomfist, and Sombra. As far as Overwatch uniforms, we have Tracer, Reinhardt, Mercy, and Torbjorn.
Most online game events tend to follow a rigid schedule, so players almost always know when to be ready for them. Overwatch’s Archive event has had a weird pattern, but it might be coming soon for 2021. The first three events took place in April and ended in May, and the 2020 version dropped in March.
So hypothetically, we could see this in mid-March, and since most of these events begin on Thursdays, we’re looking at the 11th or 18th. That’s where things get a little complicated. The previous events, notwithstanding 2020 started in April. Was the March 2020 Overwatch Archive event a fluke, or does it herald the arrival of the 2021 event? Since we’ll probably get a few week’s notice, we’ll just have to keep an eye out on social media. As soon as we have the details, rest assured, you will as well.
While things have looked sort of grim for Overwatch lately, as we’re not going to see any more characters added to it, at least we’ll have fun events to take part in. It’s in a strange place, and the lack of news on Overwatch 2 is only harming this title. Perhaps they’ll also release a free-to-play change sometime soon.
