The Next DnD Film Is Filming as Set Photos Were Posted Online
It seems that the year of adaptations is upon gamers this year. From Sonic last year, to Borderlands and Uncharted in the near future, game-to-film adaptations are on the rise. However, a new challenger is taking the reigns this week as a plethora of photos from the set of the new Dungeons & Dragons, or DnD for short, film are being shared online. Marking its fourth big-screen appearance, Dungeons & Dragons has cemented itself in media as not only a tabletop role-playing game but a film series too!
The Dungeons and Dragons Series has culminated throughout three films, with the fourth being shot right now. Pictures of the film were taken at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, a castle which has been used for multiple other shoots in the UK from Harry Potter to Downtown Abbey.
The Photos
The Forgotten Realms Wiki posted most of the pictures found on Twitter, cluing fans of the RPG series in on what some of the images might mean.
The Forgotten Realms Wiki showcased an image of flags hanging on the castle, pointing out that one of the banners could indicate the holy symbol of one of the games Deities, keeper of the sun Amauntor. Later, they discovered that the other images depict the crest of Neverwinter, known in the Dungeons and Dragons world as “The Jewel of the North.” Another image showcased on the Twitter feed is one of a character with a tattoo on his head. With the actors in costumes, fans can pick out and predict what roles some of them play, such as with a phot from the shoot showing another character in the same outfit as the previous tattooed man, leading to the conclusion that these characters could be playing the parts of the antagonists of the film’s story. More pictures from the UK’s The Chronicle showcase images of boats traveling down the river followed by smoke and cloud moving in on the castle, giving an ominous tone to the DnD film. Another image also showcases actors in costume waiting for their turn onset.
Another person on Twitter, @peatock, stumbled upon the set and posted images he took during his trip to Alnwick Castle. These show off the fact that crews were covering up sidewalks and some strange tents that appeared outside of the castle. He also posted another set of images containing garden features and crew members carrying around plastic pillars with decorative lions on top.
The filming seems to be going off without a hitch, and since the movie is slated for a 2023 release, fans of Dungeons and Dragons may have to wait a bit longer while the film goes through post-production before any release date can be confirmed. For now, the plethora of images is enough to satiate the fans who are looking forward to the title.
