Hearthstone The Great Amalgamation Is the Tavern Brawl
It’s been a bit since we’ve gotten a new Tavern Brawl to check out in Hearthstone but that changes this week. Blizzard has updated the popular card battling game with a new limited time mode for players to check out in the game. It will only be around for a short period of time but for this week, players will be able to try out the new Tavern Brawl called The Great Amalgamation.
For those who don’t know, the word amalgamation means the action, process, or result of combining or uniting, according to the official dictionary definition. Well, The Great Amalgamation doesn’t hold back and fully utilizes the meaning of the word to its fullest with this limited time mode.
What Is The Great Amalgamation?

Blizzard is combining all the different minion types that can get bonuses into one. That’s right, during this mode only, all your minions will count as elementals, mechs, murlocs, demons, dragons, beasts, pirates, and totems. The crazy part is that they will all count as those minion types at the same time.
It truly is The Great Amalgamation as the name suggest with minions taking on the roles of other minions in the process. You might look at that mechanic and wonder how that will affect anything within the game itself. Well, this changes up entire decks and card meanings while you are in the Tavern Brawl.
After all, during the event, any card that would give a bonus or effect to certain minion types will now affect all your minions no matter what they are. Take for example if you have a deck that is full of beasts and you use a card that is meant for buffing or affecting murloc cards.
Though your beasts aren’t normally considered murlocs, that card would also affect them since they are every major minion type for The Great Amalgamation Tavern Brawl. Suddenly, this changes up things significantly like those aggressive murloc-focused decks.
You suddenly have more utility at your disposal since you can add cards like ones that affect mechs or dragons and it will also benefit your murloc-exclusive deck. This also applies to normal minions, too, that aren’t murlocs or beasts. This is a simple change for the Tavern Brawl that opens a lot of possibilities.
What Class Benefits from The Great Amalgamation the Most?
Quite frankly, though, there is one class that will benefit the most from this Tavern Brawl and that is the Shaman class. This is because the class is more well suited to affecting minions like murlocs and, of course, the totems that the Shaman class is known for.
Suddenly, cards that would have affected just your totems will now affect your murlocs and other minions, and vice versa. With the exclusive spell and minion cards that the Shaman has at their disposal, it is certain that this class will have the best advantage in this Tavern Brawl.
As such, we highly recommend checking the class out if you are interested in doing well in this Tavern Brawl even if you aren’t normally a Shaman player. The basic idea for The Great Amalgamation is to build a deck (no matter which class you end up using) with nothing but minions and buffing cards.
You want to grab your best and favorite minions that you can easily fill the battlefield with and then a bunch of cards that will make them super powered. This could mean that the best course of action is to fill up the deck with low-costing minions that you can get onto the field as quickly as possible.
Then use cards like the Shaman’s Everyfin is Awesome card to save some mana for each minion since they are now a murloc and give plus two/plus two to them. Do this and you could easily overwhelm your opponent with the sheer number of weak minions that have suddenly become strong.
Then in the latter stages of the match when you have more mana, you can start using the more expensive minions and make them even stronger than ever before. Thankfully, though, if you aren’t confident in your deck-building abilities, there is still an option for you in the game for this Tavern Brawl.
The Great Amalgamation Tavern Brawl Reward
When you go to build a deck for the Tavern Brawl, you can select to have the game automatically build a deck for you that will work well. The game will then go through your entire collection of cards and pick the ones that will work best for The Great Amalgamation under its specific rules.
This is a great feature for players who aren’t sure of what to do. After all, you’re going to want to be able to do well at this Tavern Brawl so that you can win at it. Winning in this week’s Tavern Brawl will reward you with a free classic card pack to add some more cards to your growing collection.
