Terraria and Don’t Starve Together Collaboration Live
The smount of crossovers between games has been lacking, that’s not to say that there haven’t been crossovers as of late. The difference comes from what’s being crossed over. While titles like Fortnite have seen plenty of crossovers, such as Fortnite’s inclusion of Naruto characters, the nature of the crossovers in games has been more corporate than what players are used to. However, all players have a soft spot for when two titles that aren’t corporate at all cross over, and this is something that player’s expected when they saw the crossover with Terarria and Don’t Starve. The 2D side-scrolling equivalent of Minecraft and the isometric survival title come together to make a delightful crossover, which all began six months ago with an AMA on Reddit when one of the developers of Terraria was asked if they wanted to do another crossover, which game would they be interested in doing it with. The developer’s answer was that they would want to do a crossover with Don’t Starve, specifically the multiplayer version of the game, Don’t Starve Together.
Terrara X Don’t Starve: An Eye for an Eye
Two very successful independent titles have now come together to celebrate their success in a crossover that combines some of the best content from both games and brings them to players who want to do more in Terraria. Even though they said that the game wasn’t going to receive any major updates after the release of the workshop tools for the game, there’s still more content coming to both of the titles. Here’s everything that’s being included in both games. The content is gone over in forum posts from both Re-Logic and Klei, as well as a special Don’t Starve Together Animation that shows the characters fighting a boss from terraria.
Terraria Content
In the world of Terraria, the developers decided to forgo the idea of adding an event into the game which was used for previous crossover titles, putting players into a controlled scenario rather than letting them run wild. Instead, players are now going to be able to use the new World Seed function in the game which was added with the Journey’s End update.
Being that both of the titles crossing over are survival games, this new seed changes the world to function similarly to Don’t Starve, as new lighting and shaders are included in the seed to give the world a more sinister feel, something that is very prevalent in Don’t Starve.
However, just because the world looks different doesn’t mean that the game is going to play the same. Players are now going to have to worry about two other things in the game that they normally wouldn’t have to worry about.: light and hunger. Players who decide to venture into the darkness are going to be met with a grim fate, as running into the darkness without light will kill them if they spend too much time in it, something that was pulled right from the world of Don’t Starve. Being that both of the games are survival-based, players are going to notice that when playing in the Constant, hunger is going to become something they’re going to have to quell, because if they starve, they’ll most certainly perish. Playing in the Constant will also grant players with a higher drop rate on Don’t Starve items in the game. However, there are some things that will still leak into the world of Terraria outside of the new crossover seed in the game.
There’s a new enemy lurking in the world of Terraria, coming from Don’t Starve; the Deerclops. This massive hooved monster sporting a single eye is one of the tougher bosses in the winter for players of Don’t Starve. Putting the boss into Terraria, players are going to have to work together to take down this boss, which only spawns in Ice Biomes. The boss isn’t going to be difficult for veteran players of the game, and it’s going to be able to be summoned around mid/late pre-hard mode. This is to make the boss more accessible to all players of the game, regardless of skill level. The boss also comes with a remix of the Winter Epic Fight music, which has been modified to fit into the Terraria world, and provided by the developers of Don’t Starve.
There’s also a slew of new items to be brought into the game as well. While they’re not all covered in the forum post about the crossover, they do cover some of the new items included in the game. Aside from some cosmetics in the game to make the player look like Wilson from Don’t Starve, there are also 25 new items brought from Don’t Starve into Terraria. One of the items is the talking axe Lucy, who will say things when you pick her up and drop her, she’s also the third-best ax in the game. There are also some new pets in the game, like flying spiders, and there’s also a new summons in the form of the character Abigal from Don’t Starve. This minion will follow the player and attack enemies for the player. On top of this, there’s one more pet in Terraria that’s going to be something plenty of players are going to appreciate; Chester. This living box is going to follow the player around, which will function like a piggy bank if the player clicks on them, allowing them to store items inside of the piggy bank, as well as pick up items that can be retrieved back home in a normal piggy bank.
Don’t Starve Content
Moving over to Don’t Starve Together, players will notice that there are going to be some interesting changes to the world of the Constant. Aside from some Terraria Inspired world Generation, there’s a special item hidden inside of the world.

Somewhere in the game world, there’s a special little set piece hidden. While it seems to look like a normal terrarium, players will quickly uncover something far darker about the set. Using the terrarium, players will be forced to encounter the Eye of Terror, which is Terraria’s Eye of Cthulhu boss from the game. While this may be one of the first bosses in the title, this Eye of Terror is no pushover, as the characters aren’t as well equipped as the players in Terraria. Fighting this boss isn’t going to be easy, but for those who are skilled enough to take down the Eye of Terror, there’s another boss waiting in the game for them; the Twins of Terror. Two eyes and double trouble, players are going to have to work a little harder to take down this boss before they find that these eyes are just as big as their stomachs. There are also statues for both of the crossover bosses, so players are going to be able to show off their triumphs. Klei have also worked with Re-Logic to craft their own version of Terraria’s boss theme for the Eye of Terror and the Twins of Terror.
Also included in the game is a new pet for players to have known as the Friendly Peeper, which is a tiny eye that will follow the character. There are also some new items brought into the game to satisfy the player’s cravings for more food as well, like the Banana Daquiri and more!
It wouldn’t be a crossover without some cosmetics to be included in the game as well, Much like Terraria’s take on Winston, players also get the option to make some threads themselves. Only available using the spool, the player is able to craft a three-piece suit based on Terraria’s traveling merchant. There’s also a special Peeper hood, which will let players wear the Eye of Terror as a headpiece.
For those who are also still interested in the game, going onto Don’t Starve Together now before December’s update will unlock the Terrarized Chest, which includes new skins for weapons, food, and chests to make them fit into the Terraria universe.
Extra Crossover Content
Outside of the game, there’s still some more content that players have to look forward to. The merch store for Don’t Starve Together is going to contain some special art pieces to be purchased as a shirt or a mug, as well as pieces of merch feature characters from both worlds interacting in the Don’t Starve art style. The biggest one which is being used for promotion is showing the player from Terraria fending off the DeerClops, while Winston fights the Eye of Terror.
Outside of the merchandise for the update, there are some special icons and borders for the game in the Steam Points Shop. Owners of Terraria are able to pick up two icons showing off the Eye of Terror, and some borders of the same nature, while owners of Don’t Starve Together get a special pixelated versions of Chester and the Deerclops, as well as flame and water borders for their Steam profile.
With that, this is everything that’s coming to both Don’t Starve Together and Terraria, with a lot of interesting content coming to the game, there’s a lot of new and exciting things to do in both games. Hopefully, players will see some more titles come out with crossovers of their own that are focused on bringing more players into trying something they normally haven’t before.
