Tempo Storm Pushes Beyond Esports With New Initiatives

by in General | Feb, 20th 2020

Surely, you’ve heard of Tempo Storm, if you’re here. One of the biggest names in esports, Tempo Storm funds some of the best teams and players for many popular games. Hearthstone, Super Smash Bros, Magic: The Gathering, Shadowverse, PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six Siege all has Tempo Storm hands in it. But it’s time to move beyond that!

Today, they announced they raised $3.3 million in their latest funding round. Interactive content and technology investor Galaxy Interactive leads the funding via its Galaxy EOS VC Fund. What will this fund be used for? To reach beyond the confines of the traditional esports organizations boundaries.

The Future, According to Tempo Storm

It seems like they want to reach beyond just esports. They will push towards interactive media, game design and more beyond that. Tempo Storm’s founder and CEO, Andrey “reynad” Yanuk, discussed this in a press release.

“While Tempo is well-known in the competitive gaming world, we’ve always operated more as a media company than a sports team. We believe that interactivity is the future of entertainment, and we’re incredibly grateful to be working with investors who share that vision. Our upcoming game and audience-driven shows are blazing the trail in the world of interactive media, and it’s exciting to see that future being realized.”

Tempo Storm has quite the history in gaming. So, why not work on their own game, too? That’s one of the major focuses here. Tempo Storm is working on their “Game Changers” franchise and will launch The Bazaar, Tempo’s first video game!

The digital deckbuilding card game is designed to take reynad’s years as a card game player into account and create an innovative take in the CCG sphere. When I read Tempo Storm is making a game, I immediately thought card game. That’s what I know Tempo Storm for the most.

Sam Englebardt, head of Galaxy Interactive, also spoke about this move. “What impressed us most about Tempo Storm is their vision beyond the traditional esports organization. Starting with the company’s founder and CEO, Andrey Yanyuk, this group is truly innovating in areas such as interactive productions and game development. Sure, they are successful esports competitors, but they are so much more, and it was an easy decision to invest in them.”

So, what is Game Changers? They are going to build off the work IRL and “Just Chatting” Twitch streamers do. Gamer Changers is an all-live travel show. It aims to prove fans can fully influence what happens on stream. They will bring in some significant personalities on Twitch like Jake’ n’Bake, to create a new avenue for storytelling through Tempo Storm.

This is a cool idea, but the big move for us is that card game. The Game Changers show sounds genuinely interesting, but new entrants into the CCG space are a fascinating one. It’s hard to break into these days, with Artifact’s howling failure still in our hearts and minds. But we believe in the talent at Tempo Storm to make these dreams a reality.
