T1 Full 2022 LCK Roster Announced, Bengi Promoted

by in League of Legends | Dec, 3rd 2021

T1, the most revered League of Legends organization in the world, has finalized its 2022 roster and, well, it’s absolutely stellar! Not that we expected anything less after their dominant run at this year’s World Championship. Fans were hoping for a spectacular showing and T1, to their credit, delivered when it mattered most.

Still, with their players performing so darn well, we had our fears that the team would get picked apart by the many LPL and LCS teams willing to sign a blank cheque. It’s hard to say no to someone willing to pay you millions upon millions of dollars. A career in esports is often short, and it’s completely normal that players want to maximize their earnings and capitalize on all opportunities.

It seems, however, that playing for this venerable organization is an honor and a privilege that trumps a sizable sack of cash — and the players are well aware of it as well. It’s not like T1 isn’t paying them handsomely, but it’s rare to see so much loyalty in the face of multi-million dollar offers.

T1 2022 Starting Roster

The following five players — none of which need an introduction — will be playing under the T1 banner for the 2022 competitive season:

  • Top Lane: Choi “Zeus” Woo-je
  • Jungle: Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon
  • Mid Lane: Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok
  • AD Carry: Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong
  • Support: Ryu “Keria” Min-seok

Kim “Asper” Tae-gi, from T1 Challengers, will round out T1’s six-man roster. After Gumayusi’s mind-blowing performance at Worlds, no one should be overly surprised that he got the nod over Park “Teddy” Jin-seong — a seasoned veteran who’ll now compete for Afreeca Freecs. T1 has also parted ways with Kim “Canna” Chang-dong and Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan.

With DWG KIA losing three of its veteran players, T1 might as well be considered as the biggest front-runner to claim the LCK throne. It’s not going to come easy, of course, but they’ll retain their chemistry and should, by all means, be able to put on a show.

Then again, Gen.G probably begs to differ.

A Legend Gets Promoted

Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong, former T1 alumnus and bonafide legend, will join Choi “Polt” Seong-hun and Kim “Moment” Ji-hwan as an assistant coach for the 2022 competitive season. The latter two individuals were instrumental in T1’s resurgence, so the fact that their contracts got extended (for multiple years, no less) should really come as no surprise.

As for Bengi, he wasn’t able to find much success with T1 Challengers in the second half of 2021, but is nonetheless an absolute veteran and will surely serve as a boon to T1’s chances going forward. With such a stacked coaching staff and a roster worthy of respect and reverence, this age-old organization will have all the right tools to leave a mark come 2022.

And, needless to say, we can’t wait to see them in action!
