Supercell Offers $1 Million in Prizes for Brawl Stars Championship

by in General | Feb, 20th 2020

Supercell, the developer of Brawl Stars, has partnered with the ESL to bring the 2020 Brawl Stars Championship to life! But you know what the best thing is? Sure, the $1 million prize pool is nice, but no pro experience is necessary!

That’s right, Brawl Stars players from around the world are welcome, with no professional gaming experience required to do battle. The open-format global esports competition will host monthly finals through ESL’s Poland Studio. It will broadcast on the Brawl Stars YouTube channel, starting March 7.

How Is It Going Down?

I love the idea that all fans of the game can participate in the Brawl Stars Championship. How do they join? By competing in monthly in-game Championship Challenges to reach the online regional qualifiers. The top teams from these move on to participate in-person at the monthly finals with the first one scheduled for March 7-8 in Katowice, Poland.

The Brawl Stars Championship World Finals will take place in Fall 2020 with Supercell offering $1 million for the competition. If that’s not enough cash to wet your whistle, the community can bolster the prize pool by up to $500,000, via select in-game purchases.

Supercell’s Kim Jensen, who oversees the esports scene, had this to say. “The Brawl Stars Championship makes it possible for all players—no matter their previous experience in esports—to brawl on a global stage. The open format of the competition removes any barriers to entry and means that it will truly be the best of the best that is crowned World Champion. Brawl Stars esports grew out of fan-initiated tournaments during the game’s beta, and we felt it was important that the Brawl Stars Championship continued to highlight the game’s most important element: its passionate community.”

This is a very inclusive way to find incredible action and get people playing Brawl Stars around the world. Back in 2019, Supercell hosted the Brawl Stars World Finals, less than eight months after the global launch. Thousands of teams competed. I’m betting this will be even bigger.

ESL has over two decades of experience with esports. Partnering with Brawl Stars to work on this competitive scene seems like it could only help it grow and improve. Bogdan Grigorie, publisher relations manager at ESL, talked about this team-up.

“We are incredibly excited to work on such an amazing game like Brawl Stars. Supercell has produced a great competitive title for esports and we are truly happy to execute The Brawl Stars Championship together with them. Teaming up with the leading Finnish game developer on the delivery of their first championship of Brawls Stars is an extremely important step for us since we have been supporting mobile esports and innovative, new formats here at ESL from the very start.”

So yes, a global shot is out there, to anyone who feels they’re good enough at Brawl Stars to make it to the World Finals! You don’t need to be a pro, have a team, or anything! Now how you’ll get to Poland is another matter. We don’t know if they’ll help with that. However, you must 16 years or older to compete.
