Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter 2 Will Be at Nintendo E3 Direct

Nintendo has teased when players will finally get to learn who the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter 2 will be. The second DLC character for the hit crossover fighting game will be revealed at the Nintendo E3 Direct this week during E3 2019 in Los Angeles, California.

While the news that we will learn who the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter 2 is isn’t surprising, it is good to know that we are guaranteed to find out there. Also, the fact that Nintendo is teasing this news merely days before the actual announcement tells us that there might be more to the story than meets the eye.

Nintendo revealed this tease during the recent Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019 this past weekend. The championship was held just before the official start of E3 2019, offering the first esports championship tournament since the game’s launch in December 2018.

The tournament featured four teams who represented regions around the world including Team USA, Team Japan, Team Europe, and Team Australia/New Zealand. Team Japan ultimately came out on top, defeating Team Europe in the grand finals who it had previously lost to.

After the conclusion of the tournament and the crowning of Team Japan as the first world champions, Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai appeared in video format to give a message to the players and fans in attendance. First off, he congratulated Team Japan on winning the world championship 2019.

After that, he concluded his video message by teasing that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter 2 will be revealed this week at the Nintendo E3 Direct. Players can look forward to the full announcement later this week during Nintendo’s annual E3 video showcase.

Where to Watch DLC Fighter 2 Reveal

So, when can you find out the new DLC character will be? Well, the Nintendo E3 2019 Direct will be airing on Tuesday, June 11, 2019; tomorrow, to be exact. Fans can watch the Direct live at 9 am PT, 12 pm ET on Tuesday morning. The video is set to have tons of announcements, trailers, and reveals.

One such reveal will be the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter 2 announcement. At this time, we don’t know exactly who will be revealed as the second character for the roster after launch. However, we are able to speculate on their identity as well as a few extra things about the announcement.

Who Could the DLC Fighter Be?

For starters, there have been a couple of different rumors and leaks lately that potentially point towards the identity of the next DLC fighter. The main two rumors have stated that the next fighter could be Erdrick from Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series or possibly Banjo Kazooie.

Both of these “leaks” are certainly possible, with Erdrick being the more likely of the two. However, there is no reason to take these rumors as facts just yet. There are plenty of other quality fighters that would make sense as the next DLC character.

It could just as easily be someone like Goku, Leon Kennedy, Dante, and so on. The list of possible fighters from major franchises is still pretty lengthy and so there really is no telling who the fighter will be. But what we do expect is that there is more to this announcement than players might expect.

It seems odd that Nintendo will tease when players will see the next DLC fighter announcement. If anything, it makes more sense to just make the reveal there at the World Championship 2019 rather than tease something that’s happening in just a few short days.

This tells us that Nintendo still has something up its sleeve, most likely. But what could that be? There are a couple of different possibilities. Since there is no surprise that we are going to get the character revealed during the Nintendo E3 Direct, that leaves room for other surprises.

We could get a new game mode for one that players won’t see coming. More likely, though, we could see the reveal as one of the first things during the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct. This could get players to let their guard down, only for another character reveal to happen for the third DLC fighter at the end of the presentation.

Though this is something that is pure speculation, it would make sense considering we already know that a reveal is happening. A second reveal within the same video would be quite the surprise and leave fans with a ton of excitement for both of the new fighters.

However, we think there is one more possibility that is more likely than any of those scenarios, though. The most likely case is that Nintendo will only reveal Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter 2 and leave it at that.

The real surprise, though, will be if that the DLC character will be released tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11, 2019 on the same day as the Direct itself. This shadow drop will be a huge surprise for players who just found out about the character and can play them the same day, too.

It makes a lot of sense to do it this way and the timing of the announcement works out rather well, too. It has been a couple of months since Joker’s release in April 2019. If you leave about two or so months between each fighter, it lines up almost perfectly with the fact that all five will be released by February 2020.
