by in Fighting Game News | Jul, 1st 2019

The Street Fighter 5 CEO 2019 results are in: after three days of long, grueling competing in the hot and humid Orlando, Florida area, the more than 100 fighters who competed in the tournament have been whittled down to just one. And that winner of the whole tournament is none other than Bonchan.

Hailing from Japan and the Red Bull Hx team, Bonchan got his first major event win of the entire season this year thus far with the competition this past weekend. The previous best record for him this season was a third place finish at the Taipei Major earlier in June.

Bonchan’s Rise to the Grand Finals

Beyond major events, though, Bonchan did get a ranked event win at the Versus Masters near the end of April. The Street Fighter 5 CEO 2019 win for Bonchan bodes well for him in the future as he has now climbed the global leaderboards to a more satisfying spot.

Prior to the Street Fighter 5 CEO 2019 competition, Bonchan was sitting at the impressive sixth place on the global leaderboards with a total of 670 points. However, this win for him over dozens of other competitors from around the world has now secured him the fourth place spot.

For the most part, Bonchan used Karin as his main along with Sagat in certain situations such as his match against Japan’s Ryusei in the top 16 round. He was able to successfully make his way to the finals for the winners bracket of the tournament and took on Japan’s Machabo from YOG.

Bonchan would go on to defeat Machabo in the winners finals three to one. This secured his win as the head of the winners bracket where he took on the winner of the losers bracket in the grand finals. The grand finals saw Japan’s Fujimura from FUDOH face off against Bonchan for the ultimate win.

Street Fighter 5 Grand Finals Results

It was an exciting grand finals as it truly looked it was anyone’s game for both matches. Yes, that’s right; both matches. As you may already know, when it comes to the grand finals, the winners bracket player only has to win one match in total to claim the crown.

But because the other player lost initially and then worked their way back up through the losers bracket, they are a disadvantage to make up for it. The losers bracket player has to win not just one but two matches in a row without losing to be able to claim the championship crown.

In Fujimura’s case, it looked like he might have been able to get the upset win and claim the tournament championship for a while. Fujimura was able to claim the first win of the grand finals, barely sweeping past Bonchan in the first match three to two.

This reset the brackets, allowing either player to win the championship. Whichever player won the second match would be the overall winner. But the stars didn’t align for Fujimura in the second match as Bonchan was able to claim the win of the tournament with a record of three to one in the second match.

Other Street Fighter 5 Results

This resulted in Fujimura in second place and Machabo getting third place for the whole tournament after an impressive comeback for the majority of the tournament. Machabo lost early on and was sent to the losers bracket where he was able to climb his way out of it to win the losers bracket and almost the championship.

What’s notable about Machabo is that he is not only having a great season this year but he mains Necalli as well. Necalli is a character that not many pro players use these days but Machabo is showing that there is still some viability left in the fighter.

The Street Fighter 5 CEO 2019 top eight results was entirely dominated by Japan players with the exception of one player from the United States. The exception was Dual Kevin who was able to place fifth in the entire tournament, which is impressive to say the least for the American player.

The Street Fighter 5 CEO 2019 tournament was held this past weekend from Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30.
