Sonic Colors Ultimate Lets Players Take On Metal Sonic Once Again

by in General | Jul, 12th 2021

Sonic Colors Ultimate might be shaping up to be the definitive way to experience the Wii game on new consoles, while the Wii wasn’t a powerhouse console, the game had sold surprisingly well for the time, however, the game got a well-deserved coat of paint, as well as a whole new slew of updates to the game, including Metal Sonic races in a new mode. Here are all the updates that were made to the game, which were shown off in a video published by the Official Sonic Account.

HD Visuals

The most obvious one is that the visuals from the Wii have been lovingly recreated, as well as the game’s lighting engine, letting the game run at 60FPS in a silky smooth 4K resolution.

Rival Rush

This new mode allows sonic to race through the many levels against Metal sonic, defeating the robotic doppelganger will net sonic rewards that he can use during other parts of the game, making it worthwhile to take on the mechanical menace throughout the game.

Park Tokens and Customization

Sonic now has the ability to collect park tokens, this is a new form of currency, and can actually net sonic new gear to use during the game, while these cosmetics won’t change the gameplay of the title, sonic can get a new pair of kicks, as well as some new gloves, to wear during his adventure. Another addition to the customization is different boost auras to the game, this lets sonic’s boost look different, and if players purchase the deluxe version of the game, the special boost aura from the Sonic Movie will also come bundled in the store for sonic to use.

Jade Ghost

A New powerup in the game, picking this item up turns Sonic into a ghost, granting him the ability to pass through walls and floors, as well as being able to access hidden areas in levels that he wouldn’t be able to reach otherwise.

Full Controller Customization

Since the Wii had players using the Wii remote to play the original Sonic Colors, finding a working control scheme that fits every player sounds like a near-impossible task, however, Sonic Colors: Ultimate comes with full controller configuration, letting players change the button functions to whatever they want to use, keeping everyone happy.

Tails Save

Finding a tails icon in the map gives the player’s a second chance when overcoming a particular obstacle if sonic end up falling or being stuck in a tight spot with no way out, touching the tails icon will send his little buddy coming to the rescue, and putting sonic back in a safe area.

100 Count Ring

Finding 100 rings in the game doesn’t give Sonic an extra life, instead, players who find 100 rings while playing the game will give sonic temporary invincibility, letting sonic barrel through enemies like his super form, and completing the level with 100 rings will grant sonic an extra boost in his score.

Music

The soundtrack to Sonic Colors has also been lovingly remixed, making the music players are listening to bigger, and better.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate sounds like just the game for new sonic fans, and with the game launching on September 7th, 2021, players who want to experience Sonic Colors without having to own a Wii will be happy to know that it’s not too far off. However, players who want to see where the sonic series is going next will have to wait a little longer, as the mysterious sonic game announced at the sonic central event seems to be a ways off.
