Smash Ultimate Voice Files May Tease a Fighters Pass Season 2 Character

by in Fighting Game News | Oct, 23rd 2020

Super Smash Bros Ultimate’s Fighters Pass 2 has four slots still yet-to-be-revealed. That’s neither new nor interesting. But we have some information that is fun to look at. Some enterprising people in the Smash Community have gone through voice files and have come up with some very interesting information. This came courtesy of Andree123 of the SmashBoards forums. What did they find though? We have further leads that could lead to a Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass 2 leak!

Steve Changed Nothing (Except Falling Through The Map)

The original fighters pass for Smash Ultimate had 5 characters in it: Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry Bogard, and Byleth (Male/Female). What’s interesting is that when we got to Terry Bogard, the voice files had two character slots remaining. Those both went to a Male/Female Byleth. This leads us to the modern-day, with the potential fighters pass 2 leak for Smash Ultimate.

When Steve arrived, the voice files did not change further. Instead, we got game-breaking bugs, and a suggestive victory animation. Andree123 pointed out that there are 5 empty voice slots in the voice clip section, as of 9.0.0:

“This means we are most likely getting a fighter with a different character/opposite gender alt with a different voice in the Fighters Pass vol. 2.”

Of course, this isn’t a guarantee. This may not actually come to pass. Steve, after all, doesn’t take up a voice file in the game. That could mean we wind up with a character that has three variants instead of two. Some suggest that the next fighter(s) could be Resident Evil characters. We could get a fighter with a male/female costume change, or perhaps two male/female voices. They hypothesize that it be Leon S. Kennedy and either Claire/Chris Redfield, which would not be a bad idea.

This could simply mean there is going to be another Fighters Pass after Fighters Pass 2 in Smash Ultimate, which would be in itself, an interesting leak to discuss. A few people this writer has spoken to hopes it’s Crash 4 related (Crash and Coco), but he’s not holding his breath on that one.

If this leak proves to be true, we’ve learned quite a lot from voice files how Nintendo structures and plans their characters. Leaks in fighting games aren’t as fun as in card games. This particular writer would rather be surprised, but there’s a lot to think about if we’re getting another character that would have two skins/voice packs. Who do you think it could be? One thought would be another Fire Emblem character; perhaps to celebrate the upcoming Fire Emblem localization? Unlikely, as most of the key Fire Emblem characters are already playable. Perhaps more Pokemon/Pokemon characters? We’ll just have to keep our eyes on this one as it developers and the year goes on. But if you have thoughts on who it could be, let us know on social media!
