Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Pyra Release is Happening Today!

by in Fighting Game News | Mar, 4th 2021

Smash Bros’ latest fighter, Pyra has her release today. There are some people that are still admittedly very upset about another anime sword fighter being in the game, but ultimately, it’s not really Sakurai’s call. Being mad at him does no good, and it’s unnecessary. As we close in on the end of Ultimate Fighters Pass 2, we have this new, exciting character with an alternate personality. For those of you who either love Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (like me now that I’ve finally put hours into it), or people who simply like having another character regardless, you don’t have to wait too long.

#79: Pyra/Mythra Join The Battle – And Rex Too, We Guess

Honestly, I expected Rex to be picked before Pyra and Mythra. But would it have been a bit too close to Pokemon Trainer’s gimmick, if he summoned his various Blade Waifus into the fight? Perhaps. But those of you who want to know when the release for Smash Bros.’ Pyra is, it’s today! We don’t have an “official time”, but it will be later today. We imagine it will likely be by this afternoon, we can get our hands on Pyra.

So how much does Pyra and Mythra run in Smash Bros ultimate as the release drops? Like all other characters, she’s 5.99 USD. If you have the Ultimate Fighters Pass 2 (29.99 USD), you already have access to Pyra. We’ll have a piece coming later today with a bit more detail on what Pyra/Mythra can do, the long and short of it is, the two girls have different strengths/weaknesses. Pyra’s powerful, and Mythra’s faster, more agile. You can swap between them to keep your foes on their toes.

While Rex is the main character of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, he’s only a part of the two girls’ Final Smashes. He comes in for Pyra’s Burning Sword, and Mythra’s Sacred Arrow. So for fans of Rex, he’s not far away. We’re excited to see what players do with Pyra, especially on the stage coming into the game, Cloud Sea of Alrest. As Azurda flies through the Sea of Clouds, you do battle upon its back. It’s really pretty awesome.

In addition to the release of Pyra in Smash Bros, there are also some new Mii Fighter costumes to purchase. Arthur’s Helm and Armor (Ghosts ‘N Goblins) and Hunter Armor and Helm (Monster Hunter) are available to pick up. For our money, Arthur is the better pick, but that’s only because Ghosts ‘N Goblins is infuriating – but fun.

79 Down, 2 To Go

There are two more fighters left for Smash. Who knows what it will be? Do you have any hypothetical picks? We’d love to see them on social media! If I had to pick three absolutely “out there” picks, I’d say:

  • Dr. Eggman (Sonic the Hedgehog)
  • Jasper (Dragon Quest XI)
  • Seth (Bravely Default 2)

What would you like to see? Let us know!
