Shin Megami Tensei V’s Release Date Leaked Before Nintendo’s E3 Presentation

It’s not uncommon for gaming companies to be excited about their games, and updating fans on their titles is key to keeping them interested in its impending release. For some companies, they may become a little overzealous and let out too much information. Such is the case with Shin Megami Tensei V, with the next title in the renowned RPG series set to release this year. However, fans were surprised as the game’s website revealed the release date of the title’s release for a few short moments.
The Series That Gave Us Persona Returns
Many Western fans of the RPG may not recognize Shin Megami Tensei, or SMT for short, as a franchise, but one of the series’ spin-offs has become extremely popular in the west, this being the Persona series. The first game came to the PS1 in 1996 and was a spin-off of SMT that still retained some of the main mechanics of the franchise. While SMT was a more combat-focused series, Persona was a more accessible JRPG franchise. The Persona titles would continue, with Persona 2 Innocent Sin, Eternal Punishment, and Persona 3 on PlayStation. Persona 4 would appear on the PS2, being renowned by both critics and fans alike. Then, Persona 5 would release on both the PS3 and PS4, cementing Persona as a series bigger than Shin Megami Tensei.
However, it seems like Shin Megami Tensei will catch up to its spin-off series in the coming months with the release of SMT 5. The game is coming out this year, albeit as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, with its release date seemingly being announced during Nintendo’s E3 Direct. However, the only reason fans are speculating this is, for a brief moment on the official Japanese website for Shin Megami Tensei 5, the release date of November 11th, 2021, was visible. As SMTV is slated for a worldwide release, this would mean that the logical time to announce this release date would be at Nintendo’s E3.
While it’s all pure speculation, the website showing the date of November 11th, 2021, means that players will be looking towards November to get their hands on Shin Megami Tensei 5 if that release date is correct. For now, fans may get an answer during Nintendo’s E3 presentation, which is slated to go on June 15th, with 40 minutes of Nintendo Switch news.
