Shin Megami Tensei V Preorders Now Available, Japanese Trailer Reveals New Characters
Shin Megami Tensei V is one of the more exciting games to come out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch later this year. The turn-based, demon-collecting JRPG will arrive in November, but before then, Shin Megami Tensei V preorders are now available for players.
Shin Megami Tensei V Preorders Are Now Available
The Shin Megami Tensei V preorders are now available digitally through the Nintendo eShop in North America. Players can hop into the eShop and find the game featured there and available for pre-purchasing right now ahead of its release in November.
The digital Shin Megami Tensei V preorders are great since this allows users to go ahead and purchase the game right now and earn some gold coins in the process once the payment goes through. From a glance, it looks like the Shin Megami Tensei V preorders will net you up to 300 gold coins when you purchase the game for $59.99.
Three hundred gold coins net out to around $3, ready to be saved on the next game purchase you make digitally on the eShop with the same Nintendo Switch account. In the case of when you will be charged for the Shin Megami Tensei V preorders, Nintendo notes that it is up to seven days before the game’s release.
Perhaps the most important part about the Shin Megami Tensei V preorders is the possibility of pre-downloading the game. This is not available at this time. However, there is the chance that users who pre-purchase the game will be able to pre-install the game before it launches so that you can immediately start playing without worrying about a lengthy install time when it drops in your region.
New Japanese Trailer Drops
In the meantime, while we wait for the Shin Megami Tensei V preorders payment to go through, there is a new trailer out for the game courtesy of yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. However, SMTV was only shown off for a few mere seconds in the North American Direct, so this trailer comes from the Japanese version.
The new Japanese trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V shows off a lot of new footage of the game in just around one minute in length. There is a nice mix of story beats, new characters, and even some gameplay areas that we have not seen much of in the game before.
The Japanese SMTV trailer shows the protagonist, alongside some of the other human characters revealed, standing in front of some of the gods and/or demons that are likely to be the main characters in the story.
The demons are gathered in a circle of sorts, with much of the drama centering on a new character that is beautiful and menacing with her gold armor and dark angelic nature. This character may be going to be an antagonist or something of the sort.
Dungeons and Other Demon Users Teased
From there, it is a nice mix of gameplay and cinematics, including a glimpse at what looks to be a more traditional dungeon experience in the upcoming title. Much of the gameplay thus far surrounding it has been showing off the Nocturne-like overworld, but there look to be dungeons in it, too.
In the peek that we get, we can see the protagonists running a dimly lit and sinister dungeon where there are red circles on the wall, which passing by causes the hero to be blasted to another section of the dungeon. This also seemingly hints at some puzzle elements that will be incorporated into the dungeons.
Another main part of the trailer comes around the midway point in which we see the hero shot at by what looks to be an enemy human and their demon companion. This could indicate that you will not just be fighting against demons and angels but also other humans.
This particular guy seems to be able to control demons, too, which could hint at the possibility of fighting against someone else with their party of demons that they have negotiated with, which could be quite intriguing and challenging as a boss battle of some kind.
Trailer Hints at the Main Characters and Possible Routes
From there, the trailer shows off some more shots of the turn-based battle system, revealing the return of several fan-favorite demons and how they will look in this new HD entry in the series. Some of the fights even look like later game ones with some of the stats that can be seen.
The Japanese trailer for SMTV concludes with glances at some of the previously introduced main characters, including the classmates of the high school hero. There are four in particular that are focused on, possibly hinting at the characters who will lead the main routes that you will be able to choose to embark on for the story’s ending.
For now, though, we will have to wait and see. At this time, we know about the story that the player awakens in the demon-infested realm of Da’at and becomes united with a demon to become the mighty being known as the Nahobino.
With the Shin Megami Tensei V preorders up now, we are one step closer to the release date for the title and find out about this mysterious world and story. The release date for the franchise’s fifth main entry is November 12, 2021, in North America. It is launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch, despite Nocturne releasing earlier this year for also PC and PS4.
