Scump Leaves OpTic
After more than seven years as the biggest player on the biggest team in the Call of Duty pro-scene, Scump’s journey with OpTic has officially come to an end.
In a post on his Twitter this past weekend, Scump announced that he was no longer a part of the org he’d be attached to for so long, though noted he was excited for his next chapter in his career.
The move follows months of history being shed by the org since it got picked up by Immortals Gaming, with the team selling the Houston Outlaws, dropping their legendary Gears of War squad, and losing the man who made OpTic what is today as former CEO and owner Hecz left the org for NRG last month.
Another One Bites the Dust as Scump Leaves OpTic
Scump isn’t the first big-name player to leave OpTic following their acceptance into next years franchise system, as Crimsix announced his departure from the squad a little over a month ago, leaving OpTic now without two of its biggest stars and strongest players, raising concerns about the strength of their roster entering the inaugural season for the league.
With Hecz and the social media team mostly moving over to NRG as well, this team is going to have an incredibly difficult time competing and marketing itself, along with the struggles they’re already facing convincing fans to stay on board with the team.
OpTic’s fanbase, known as the “Green Wall,” has long been attached to the players, Hecz, and the content around them giving insight into their lives.
Without that, what is OpTic beyond a brand name with an iconic logo? It’s going to take an enormous amount of work by Immortals to rebuild this brand and reestablish their fanbase.
Scump’s History
Scump, aged 24, started playing CoD competitively back during the days of the original Black Ops for the now-disbanded squad Team FeaR, swapping between a couple of rosters before settling with Quantic LeveraGe in March of 2011.
Winning his first major event at MLG Dallas 2011 a mere month after joining the squad, quickly establishing himself as a world-class player and leading Quantic to become the greatest team in the Modern Warfare 3 era.
His time with the squad wouldn’t last long, however, as a year later in 2012 he joined up with his iconic rival Nadeshot on OpTic Gaming, a roster he would stick with for all but one month since.
As Scump leaves OpTic he has yet to announce where he’ll end up for next season, though rumors suggest he may be following Hecz to NRG.
