Scump Claims that the CDL is Working on a Pause Feature

by in Call of Duty | Oct, 21st 2020

No matter what some people might be saying, COVID-19 is very real, and it is still a threat. With that in mind, the approach to esports has definitely changed. One of the important features of LAN CDL play is the Pause feature; Scump reports that it is in fact, going to be a feature for online games as well! If this is true, it will definitely be a boon for the CDL in 2021.

The World Isn’t Opening Anytime Soon

CDL not having a pause feature right now is definitely controversial. Having players that either lag out/disconnect due to circumstances beyond their control has already ruined quite a few professional matches. Right now, we’re stuck in online matches, so there’s no way to pause. Instead of simply starting a match over for problems like this, they have to play it out. Seth “Scump” Abner however says a pause feature is on the way for CDL 2021.

This of course is predicated on Activision being aware that serious issues in competitive CDL matches thanks to a lack of pause. The CDL wants to avoid further controversy, and if Scump is right and pause is coming, then that would be to Activision’s benefit.

Now, Scump’s word isn’t law. But we’re willing to believe it. CDL players tend to have a bit more insight, and possibly insider contacts that us regular journalists do not have. In a recent livestream, Scump talked about the future of CDL having the pause feature. You can find the clip here. We can only hope that it’s accurate, and that it’s actually a useful one!

What do you think though? Are PC crashes/internet crashes just something we have to deal with, or is a pause feature necessary for online CDL matches? We’d love to know what you think on Twitter!
