San Francisco Shock Release Three Players
Even though the Overwatch League season concluded in July, teams are already making ample changes to their coaching staffs and rosters in anticipation for the sophomore season next year, including the release of three players from the San Francisco Shock.
The organization recently unveiled that they’re releasing André “iddqd” Dahlström, Daniel “dhaK” Martínez Paz, and David “nomy” Ramirez from its roster.
Now while this doesn’t come as a surprise, it’s still potentially big news, especially for all the Iddqd fans around the world. They’re all fantastic players, and they could, by all means, find a new home when the second season comes around.
Iddqd hasn’t seen much play throughout the entire regular season – he had a couple of minutes of playtime when the season began, and he did reasonably well on picks like Widowmaker and even Tracer, but he was never more impactful or important to the team than Babybay or Danteh.
Nomy and Dhak kind of share the exact same fate – they began as starters, but they were quickly benched in favor of Moth and Super, respectively. Those roster changes paid off, as the Shock started playing a lot better almost immediately.
Dhak, in particular, wasn’t able to adapt quickly enough to the Mercy meta, and as a Lucio specialist, he wasn’t that useful to the team. He was always one of their most vocal players, and he kept the team morale high throughout losses and hardships, however, once the Shock clicked and started playing like a contender, they needed more mechanical skill and flexibility from their starting support.
Even though the San Francisco Shock finished the inaugural season at ninth place, they were consistently in the Top 6 nearing the end of the season. They had a lot of tools to win with, and it wasn’t until the very last stage that they became a very serious contender.
Unfortunately, they were unable to sustain a high level of play and eventually they ended the stage with five wins and five losses.
Coming into season two, with just a couple of changes to the roster and perhaps some additions to the coaching staff they should, by all means, be able to contest for a Top 5 spot from the very get-go. They have very young players and the experience that they’ve gotten from the inaugural season is invaluable.
