Rocket League Universal Open Qualifiers End this Weekend
The Season 2 of the Rocket League Universal Open closed qualifiers are coming to an end this weekend with the US West region competing on Saturday, August 11 in San Francisco, Calif. The winner of the region will round out the eight teams that have qualified for the Universal Open finals that will be held on Aug. 24-26 in Stamford, Conn.
Seven teams have already qualified for the Rocket League Universal Open finals. There are so far three US regional winners – Ghost Gaming (US Northeast), G2 Esports (US East), and Cloud9 (US Central). The US regional winners had to make it through a closed qualifier bracket and then a regional finals bracket. The four European teams seemed to have an easier road to qualify for the finals as they only had to do one closed qualifier bracket and the top four teams advanced. The top four teams from the European qualifiers were NoNames (now renamed to Team Secret), Girls, Class on Grass (now renamed to Double Trouble), and compLexity Gaming.

The US West regional finals of the Rocket League Universal Open will be packed full of star power as the four teams battling it out for the final spot are G2 Esports B, Momentum, Evil Geniuses Blue, and SizzleUrCob. The G2 Esports B squad features Rizzo and Kronovi, two of the bigger names in the Rocket League esports scene. Rizzo and Kronovi helped lead G2 in April to a first-place finish in the RLCS Season 5 – North America tournament. Other well-known Rocket League players in the west region are Dappur for team Momentum, Klassux on Evil Geniuses Blue, and the duo of Jacob and Sizz that makeup team SizzleUrCob.
If I had to give a slight prediction on the US west regional finals, I’d be likely to favor G2 Esports B because of the success that Rizzo and Kronovi have had in their careers. I think they demand at least that respect from most viewers of the tournament. But, on the same side, Momentum performed well in the qualifiers as they only dropped one game in the two matches that they played.
It will be interesting to see this Saturday which team wins the regional and takes the final spot of the Rocket League Universal Open finals. The winning team of the open will take home $32,500.
