by in Rocket League | Jan, 30th 2019

Tuesday, huge news echoed through the Rocket League esports community with the official announcement of RLCS Season 7. Rocket League fans from all over the world are eagerly anticipating the kickoff day, which is set for a bit later than expected. The first weekend of April, to be precise. Yup, there’s still plenty of time to go until then, but I reckon a short, highly informative RLCS Season 7 Preview article is just what you guys need!

Now, a bit of a backstory! The offseason was quite turbulent as both NA and EU teams looked to improve their rosters ahead of the upcoming Championship Series. There were huge moves back and forth as teams made final changes ahead of the WSOE 4 Tournament. As some of you already know, FlipSid3 Tactics emerged victorious, defeating the likes of NRG and Cloud9 without too much hassle.

Considering all recent moves, there is not a single team that stands out as the heavy favorites for winning either NA or EU RLCS. There’s some speculations, rumors, and expectations, but I’ll talk more about that in the Teams Overview section. For now, let’s continue this RLCS Season 7 preview with a few interesting facts!

RLCS Season 7 Preview | Interesting Facts

As mentioned above, the offseason brought many surprising moves across the board. Most notable ones are surely Chicago’s move to G2, which paved the way for Kronovi’s departure to Rogue. All these changes will make RLCS Season 7 preview much more interesting, no doubt about that!

At the moment, no broadcast talent for either EU or NA RLCS S7 broadcast talent has been announced. However, I still believe we’ll see the usual bunch with Alex “Axeltoss” Rodriguez and Randy “Gibbs” Gibbons leading the charge. Hey, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it!

As usual, RLCS S7 EU kicks off one day after the NA iteration. The dates are April 6 and April 7, to be more precise. Regional Championships share the same tale – RLCS S7 NA is set for May 11 while EU teams will have to wait an additional day to show their prowess. In simpler terms – NA RLCS will be played on Saturdays; EU RLCS will be played on Sundays.

Prize Pool Distribution

The official Season 7 rules boast over $1,060,000 in total prize pool money for the upcoming RLCS Season 7. We can assume the EU and NA RLCS regions will feature $214,250 in the prize pool. The official prize pool distribution has yet to be announced, but the Season 6 distribution can be found below.

As for the RLCS Season 7 Finals, we can only assume the prize pool will be $500,000 or even higher. As for the South American and Oceania regions, there is still no concrete information regarding their prize pools or anything else for that matter.

Place Prize Money Seed
1st $38,531.25 RLCS S7 Finals
2nd $33,531.25 RLCS S7 Finals
3rd $28,531.25 RLCS S7 Finals
4th $25,531.25 RLCS S7 Finals
5th-6th $23,531.25 RLCS S8
7th $20,531.25 Promotion Playoffs
8th $20,531.25 Promotion Playoffs

Tournament Format

As far as the format is concerned, RLCS Season 7 will sport the usual Regular Season plus Regional Championship series on all regional iterations, with the Finals serving as the icing on the cake. Regular Season will be played in a best-of-five (Bo5) round-robin format while the Championship is scheduled for a Bo7 single-elimination bracket.

The top two Regular Season teams auto-qualify for the Finals. The top six qualify for the Regional Championship. The bottom two are relegated to the Promotion Playoffs where they’ll have to fight to remain in the next RLCS season. Finally, the Championship will open the Finals’ door to two more teams, bringing the total number to four.

RLCS Season 7 Teams Overview

As always, both of these regions have excellent teams ready to make their mark on the big stage. As the Rocket League esports scene continues to develop, I’m sure the competition will become even fiercer than it is at the moment.

When it comes to the well-established RL teams, I’m sure you guys know a great deal about them. So, instead of talking about them, I’d like to focus on the four Rival Series teams which blew away last season’s wonders such as Fnatic and CompLexity.

Of course, I am referring to Splyce, Savage!, Red Reserve, and Bread. I’d like to put a huge emphasis on all four of them as I strongly believe their rosters are capable of creating upsets on the big stage. Especially Savage!, a team that has two outstanding and already well-decorated players – David “Deevo” Morrow and Daniel “Bluey” Bluett. If any of these four teams will make it big on the grandest of RLCS stages, I think it will be Savage!.

RLCS Season 7 Preview | Tournament Schedule

At the time of writing this article, the official match seeding hasn’t been announced. We do, however, know the exact dates for each of the five regular season match weeks. As mentioned above, NA matches are scheduled for Saturdays and EU for Sundays.

That’s the usual ordeal so nothing surprising about that. The number of match weeks has remained the same too, so let’s check the dates out so you guys can mark them down in your calendars!
