Riot Games’ Mobile Titles Have Already Earned More Than $100 Million

by in General | Jul, 29th 2021

Riot Games’ mobile titles have truly taken the world by storm, and they’ve done so in record time, too! Two of these titles have been around for over a year. Yet, they’re already some of the most popular games on the market. It is as if everything that Riot touches turns to gold!

Still, “success” is often a relative term. What isn’t, however, are the cold, hard facts: Riot’s mobile titles — Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, and LoL: Wild Rift — have already generated more than $100 million in revenue, as per Sensor Tower. Let that number sink in.

Riot sure did take their sweet time, but one thing is for certain: they handled this whole transition to mobile with the utmost attention to detail and are reaping the rewards (to put it mildly). Well deserved, all things considered.

Revenue Breakdown

Teamfight Tactics, the first mobile game released by Riot in March 2020, has been downloaded around 15 million times and has made almost $28 million in revenue. Legends of Runeterra (released just a month later) has generated a more modest number (although still mighty impressive) — $16 million, along with 13 million downloads across both iOS and Android.

Last but certainly not least, we have LoL: Wild Rift. Interestingly enough, this oh-so-spectacular title still isn’t available in China and South Asia, which didn’t stop it from generating almost $65 million in revenue. What a truly astonishing number! And with 46 million downloads across all platforms, it’s fair to say that Wild Rift is the very definition of a “smash hit.”

If you’ve ever wanted proof that mobile gaming is the future, you now finally have it.

The old proverb comes to mind: as you sow, so shall you reap. Riot was in no hurry, and their patience paid off in spades — or in millions, to be more exact. They first laid the groundwork, waited for mobile gaming to reach a certain level of maturity, and then struck once the iron was hot. Making the transition to mobile just a couple of years ago wouldn’t have been nearly as effective or successful. As is so often the case, the timing was crucial, and Riot couldn’t have picked a better moment to embark on this (lucrative) journey.

These staggering numbers are nothing but a by-product of Riot’s multi-year-long plan, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds! One thing is for certain: success is pretty much guaranteed!
