Rekkles Reportedly Leaving G2 Because Caps and Jankos No Longer Wanted to Play With Him

The 2021 off-season is still a ways off, and yet there’s already no shortage of drama: according to Esportsmaniacos, the main reason why Martin “Rekkles” Larsson is going to part ways with G2 Esports is because Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and Rasmus “Caps” Winther no longer want to compete with the legendary Swedish marksman.

No Bad Blood

G2 always delivers, be it on the stage or behind the scenes. And, well, are you not entertained?

In fact, Jankos had supposedly given G2 an ultimatum of sorts — the only way he’d stay with the organization was if Rekkles were to leave and, by the looks of it, G2 has made its decision. A thankless position to be in, no doubt.

We assume that there’s no actual “bad blood” between any of G2’s players, which means this whole kerfuffle probably revolves around their approach to the game and general attitude. Jankos is a lot more easygoing and laid-back, whereas Rekkles is well known for his “tryhard” mentality and reluctance to socialize with his teammates. There’s also a very real possibility that G2’s failure to reach Worlds caused a bit too much friction between its players — they’re all so used to winning, after all.

If the rumor mill is to be believed, Caps was a lot more reserved in that regard, but had eventually leaned towards Jankos’ side. What’ll happen next is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure: it won’t lack in spectacle!

Prepare for a Spicy Off-Season

It goes without saying, but the impending 2021 off-season is bound to bring a slew of surprises — and we mean that in both good ways and bad. Certain top-tier teams like MAD Lions, Fnatic, and Rogue aren’t expected to change much. Every other organization, however, is bound to field noticeably different rosters come 2022 — and that’s far from a bad thing.

There’s a lot of talent present in the ERLs, and these young players deserve a shot at playing on the biggest of stages. There needs to be a healthy, cyclical influx of talent, otherwise the region as a whole will stagnate.

And, well, expect a fair bit of drama, too, if the last couple of days are anything to go by!
