Rekkles Finds His Perfect Fit as He Joins G2 Esports

by in League of Legends | Dec, 1st 2020

The League of Legends scene was shaken to its core when the Fnatic team’s most iconic player announced he was leaving. That’s right, Rekkles joins G2 Esports, arguably Fnatic’s greatest rival. This could be the biggest roster shift of the entire 2021 preseason and could be what G2 Esports needs to secure the bag at Worlds. The real question is, does Rekkles fit on the G2 team? According to the man himself, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson feels the two are “made for each other.” That remains to be seen, but let’s see why!

Now, Rekkles is an incredible AD carry for the European scene. He feels like he is always the bridesmaid but never the bride. Why? Rekkles has claimed several 1st/2nd spots with Fnatic over his seven years on the team, but never at Worlds. His best placing is 3rd-4th, which is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Some ask if Rekkles can even succeed with a team that isn’t Fnatic, but we think so. As Rekkles joins G2 Esports, we prefer to look at the overall possibilities and team makeup.

Martin “Rekkles” Larsson answered this himself on YouTube, saying everything will be fine. Rekkles thinks the two are a perfect fit, and if they believe, we believe. “I started doing this because I wanted to be the best, and that means winning Worlds,” he said. “G2 Esports, and the roster, has a very similar mindset. In that way, we’re made for each other; the team really wants to win Worlds.”

The LEC hasn’t claimed a Worlds victory since 2011, and that was Season 1. Since then, the rest of the world exploded onto the scene (except NA) and showed what they could do. Both Fnatic and G2 Esports were close over the last year or so, but sadly, they could not best out their rivals. However, not everything is perfect.

After all, Rekkles is well-known for being emotional and a very focused player. He’s far more serious than the squad he’s coming onto. If you’ve followed G2 on Twitter at all, you know they’re all for a good joke or roast. The League of Legends team for G2 is just as wacky. They try weird comps and see a great deal of joy in the game. League is a game that people tend to take very seriously at all levels. There’s still some fun to be had, though, if you look. G2 found it!

Rekkles did talk about this though, with a straight face. “Obviously, there’s a little bit of worry in terms of how we fit in socially with the team or culturally. When it comes to games, I know we’re gonna be fine, but I am worried about being a more serious guy.”

He’s not Perkz, but he doesn’t have to be. Ultimately, Rekkles makes the moves that he thinks makes the most sense. It’s less about the money and more about having a legacy that he can look back on. Rekkles has pointed out that he wants to be a player that people look back on and remember when they think of League. Rekkles joins G2 Esports in the 2021 season, and honestly, we can’t wait to see it. Every jokester needs a straight man to play off of, after all. It could be just the dynamic that G2 needs to blow everyone out of the water in 2021.

G2 Esports is this writer’s favorite team in professional League of Legends. If Rekkles thinks G2 has the best chance to get to Worlds in the coming year, we’re willing to believe it. What was once just a rumor is now a fact, and you love to see it.
