How to Watch Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals
After weeks and weeks of qualifiers, both through the tabletop physical version of Magic: The Gathering and the digital version of the card game, the Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals are gearing up to happen this weekend. This tournament event is hosted by FACEIT and Red Bull.
Though it isn’t directly held by Wizards of the Coast, the company does fully support the event and the rewards that the winner will be receiving through the competition. The reason the tournament is so important is that the winner of the entire thing will be given a sponsored invite to the Mythic Championship VI in Richmond, Virginia later this year.
Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals Details and How to Watch
The Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals will be held this weekend on Sunday, August 4, 2019 in London. If you aren’t able to make it to the event in person, worry not as the entire tournament will be streamed live, like with other major competitions like this one.
The entire action will begin on Sunday, August 4, and fans will be able to watch all of the matches live starting at 9 am PT that day as they happen. You will be able to watch it live on the official Red Bull Twitch channel.
Though it is starting a little later than most competitions, it shouldn’t last too long since there are only eight players who are competing in the finals after the competition was whittled down to just them. It all began weeks back when literally thousands of players tried to get into the finals.
The Players Participating in the Red Bull Untapped Finals
There were 1,024 spots that were available for players who wanted to qualify for the finals, which is quite a bit more than most tournaments that typically range in the couple hundreds. The qualifiers went on for a while until there were only eight left and those eight will compete in the Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals this weekend.
How the eight qualifiers were determined was by picking the winner and the second place player from two qualifier tournaments that were featuring the tabletop physical version of the popular card game and then the winner and second place player from two more qualifiers that were digital only.
You can find the list of all eight players who will be competing in the finals this weekend in London below along with how they did in their respective qualifying tournament:
- Anton De Smet: Won the Brussels qualifying tournament
- Beja Ricardo: Got second place at the Brussels qualifying tournament
- Javier Dominguez: Winner of Florence qualifying Red Bull tournament
- Luca Simonato: Second place player at the Florence qualifying tournament
- Jose Neves: Winner of the first FACEIT qualifying tournament
- Alex Majlaton: Second place player at the first FACEIT qualifying event
- Lino Burgold: Winner of the second FACEIT qualifying tournament event
- Thomas Holzinger: Second place player at the FACEIT qualifying tournament two
The Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals will be hosted by Riley Knight with the team of Merchant, Raphael Levy, and Reid Duke covering all of the action with their broadcasting. Tim Willoughby will also be helping out with the event, making it feel more like an actual Mythic Championship tournament.
The eight players will battle it out in likely a typical tournament match format to find out who will be the first place winner. With a sponsored invite to the Mythic Championship VI, there is a lot on the line for the eight players who have fought their way to make it to the finals event.
The winning player will not only get a spot at the upcoming tournament in Richmond, Virginia later this year but will also have a paid trip there. That is especially great since Wizards of the Coast stopped paying for travel for those players who are invited to major events like the Mythic tournaments.
Stay tuned for the full recap and results of the Red Bull Untapped MTG Finals including the winner who will be making it to the Mythic Championship VI event. You can watch the entire event live on Sunday, August 4.
