Quantic Dream Unveils Star Wars Eclipse, a Narrative Game Set in the High Republic Era

We’ve heard rumors of this being in the pipeline, but it perhaps seemed a bit too good to be true. Fortunately for millions of fans across the globe, the leaks were correct — and boy, can we not wait to get our hands on it! It’s actually happening: Quantic Dream is working on a narrative-driven Star Wars video game set in the High Republic era.

Details are still scarce (to say the least), but Quantic’s website does give us a series of important hints, all of which paint a complete picture. “A new multiple-character branching narrative game set in the High Republic era, presented to you by Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games. Now early in development. Star Wars Eclipse lets you play as a diverse cast of charismatic characters, each with their own story, abilities, and role to play in the tapestry of events that could alter the carefully balanced piece of the Outer Rim. Choices Have Consequences — Every decision you make can have dramatic repercussions on your journey. The way of life in the Outer Rim is being threatened and you must define your path,” as per the official website.

If you’re watering at the mouth, know that you’re not the only one!

A Match Made in Heaven

The developers behind Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human? Where do we sign up?! If ever there was a studio that could pull it off — and deliver a bona fide masterpiece — it’s Quantic.

Now, some will surely lament the existence of such a title (mostly because of its presumed genre), thinking that Star Wars should only be limited to action adventures with huge epic set pieces and RPGs of varying depth and complexity. And while we do understand such a stance, it is nonetheless important for gamers to experience a wider gamut of styles and genres. A more eclectic, diverse range allows for different stories to be told — narratives that can truly challenge us in ways we never thought were possible.

Take 2018’s God of War, for instance. It is a tremendous video game (one of the very best, in fact), but that’s not just for its spectacular skirmishes but its emotional component as well — and the way these two elements entwine into one singular experience.

That kind of depth is what Quantic Dream brings to the table, and we can never get enough of it. Their titles are wholly unique, and if they can find a way to give Star Wars the “Quantic treatment,” they will no doubt deliver a video game that’ll take our breath away.
