PUBG Lite Announced, Will Be Free-To-Play
PUBG fans with basic PCs will now have a chance to play the popular battle royalegame. PUBG Corp has confirmed that “PUBG Lite” is on the way. PUBG Lite is designed to run on almost any PC, including ones with lower-spec hardware, and will be free-to-play.
Don’t be fooled by the title, PUBG Lite is not a watered-down alternative to PUBG. Just like PUBG Mobile, it has its own development team and will get its own exclusive content (such as new maps) and updates.
Currently, PUBG Lite has a public beta available in Thailand. It gives players the option to choose from solo, duos or squads and uses the Erangel map. Also, all games are played in third-person, but first-person is expected to be added to the full version.
Here are the minimum and recommended specs for the PUBG Lite game:
Minimum:
- OS: Windows 7/8/10, 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i3 2.4 GHz
- RAM: 4 GB
- Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000
- HDD: 4GB
Recommended:
- OS: Windows 7/8/10, 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870
- HDD: 4GB
PUBG Lite is PUBG Corp’s answer to the other popular free-to-play PC games — such as League of Legends and Fortnite (which both work on low-end PCs as well). The game will rely strictly on microtransactions to generate money, which sounds risky, but Fortnite made over $2.4 billion dollars using that formula, so it can work as long as the game is good.
Unfortunately, the full version of PUBG available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 still have a lot of technical problems. For example, there are many rendering issues with the game on console, and constant weapon glitches pop up that have to be addressed with frequent patches. For that reason, many are skeptical about how well PUBG Lite will run on lower-spec hardware.
According to the game’s developer team, outside of the current beta test, they have been testing the PUBG Lite game since October 2018. So at least fans know they are working hard behind the scenes to ensure this game works properly.
“Deliver the “PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS experience to players in areas where the core game’s required specifications are more difficult to achieve due to the hardware available. To this end, the PUBG LITE team has focused on balancing lower hardware requirements, without compromising on our quality standards. The end result is a build that is playable even on computers and laptops utilizing integrated graphics.”
This is an official statement from the PUBG Lite Team on their goal for this game:
As of right now, there is no official release date for PUBG Lite.
