by in General | Jun, 28th 2019

The Pokemon Company has announced the latest expansion to the Pokemon trading card game that is sure to get fans excited with its wide variety of cards and a special card that is unlike any before it. The newly announced Pokemon TCG Hidden Fates expansion is the latest expansion to drop.

This upcoming expansion is the newest one in the line of Pokemon Sun & Moon cards, and it could potentially be the last expansion for that set, though, we don’t have confirmation of this just yet. The Pokemon TCG Hidden Fates expansion will feature more than 150 cards for players to collect, trade, and battle.

Introducing Tag Team Trio GX Cards

What’s super special about this upcoming expansion, though, is that it’s introducing a brand new GX card.

Which has never happened before.

Recently, The Pokemon Company introduced the concept of GX tag team cards. These cards are ones where players get to have two Pokemon featured in a single card.

It was a bizarre concept to grasp at first for many players but has since become a staple of the trading card game with new additions to the tag team GX card lineup growing larger by the expansion. There are fantastic staples like Zekrom and Pikachu, Celebi and Venosaur, and Eevee and Snorlax.

Thus far, those cards have been extremely powerful and used by many players in the competitive scene due to their usefulness. For the most part, each of the tag team GX cards have been bringing together two surprising Pokemon that share at least one typing with each other.

However, both of those trends are breaking now with the Pokemon TCG Hidden Fates expansion. The biggest and perhaps most important card that will be introduced in the new set is the first ever tag team trio GX card. This card features three fan favorite legendary birds: Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos.

The Moltres and Zapdos and Articuno GX tag team trio card is absolutely gorgeous to look at in its artwork alone as we can see all three of the legendary birds intertwining with their individual elements. This card looks to be a powerhouse, too, with a massive 300 health in total as well as the unbelievably powerful Trinity Burn ability that deals a whopping 210 damage.

No doubt this will become one card that many players will begin using from the expansion, though, the power does come at a steep cost so players will need to prepare accordingly. The Pokemon Company is marketing the Pokemon TCG Hidden Fates expansion as a collector’s dream filled with all-time favorite Pokemon from across the series.

More Hidden Fates Details and Release Date

Beyond the Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno GX tag team trio card, there is one other GX card that has been revealed from this set thus far and that is the new Mewtwo GX card. This powerful Mewtwo GX card is fitting of the psychic Pokemon with a solid 180 health and two abilities that deal 110 and 120, respectively.

What’s crazy is that’s not all either as we know that there will be a total of more than 150 cards in this upcoming expansion. Of those 150 plus cards, we have the tag team trio featuring the legendary birds from the generation one games plus eight more GX cards.

We know that three of those remaining eight GX cards will be the aforementioned Mewtwo GX as well as Gyarados GX and Charizard GX. There will also be 15 trainer cards in the set for players to collect and more than 75 shiny Pokemon versions of cards including Mewtwo GX itself.

The Pokemon TCG Hidden Fates expansion will be a standard legal set and will release on August 23, 2019. It is possible that this could be the final expansion in the Sun & Moon set as well since it is the fifth expansion this year with last year having only five expansions.

This would make sense, too, since Pokemon Sword & Shield releases later this year. Stay tuned for more information regarding this upcoming expansion and any future ones as well.
