Playstation Character Crossovers Confirmed for Ratchet & Clank: Rifts Apart
PlayStation is doing a lot of marketing for the next Ratchet & Clank game, Rifts Apart, as Insomniac Games deliver one of the first PS5 exclusive titles to the console. However, it seems that Ratchet & Clank aren’t having all the fun for themselves. PlayStation announced that some crossovers between Ratchet & Clank and their family of titles would make it into the game when it launches in just a few short days. However, it looks like some of the crossovers have already been teased by Insomniac themselves.
The Crossovers
Posted on Twitter, the first crossover mentioned in the game will be Sunset Overdrive, a title that was originally an Xbox One exclusive. Now that Sony has Insomniac batting for PlayStation again, it seems that anything goes for this crossover. An image posted by Insomniac shows the character Fizzie from the game being pulled into a dimensional rift. The tweet is captioned with Clank asking if the giant balloon is another “Warbot” from the game’s antagonist Dr. Nefarious.

The next crossover features the likes of Sly Cooper, who hasn’t been in a game since 2013. As Sly finds himself being pulled into one of Dimensional Rifts brought upon by the game’s events. Sucker Punch Games, the minds behind Sly Cooper, posted a quote tweet to this picture with the caption, “Where are you taking him!? SLY, JUMP AND PRESS THE CIRCLE BUTTON TO GET OUT OF THERE!”
Next on the crossover list is Horizon, as the game’s ThunderJaw is being pulled into one of the dimensional rifts. This was also accompanied by a quote tweet from the game’s creators, Guerrilla. “Oh no. That’s a Thunderjaw! You should be VERY worried!!” One of the characters from the upcoming game, Rivet, also comments on the robot on Insomniac’s Twitter, stating, “The last thing we need is yet another robot from an unknown dimension getting yanked into all this chaos! I sense a big problem on the horizon.”
Thirdly, Nathan Drake’s Car in Uncharted 4 is shown being pulled through a rift. Insomniac posted another comment about this vehicle being seen by their characters: “Ratchet: That strange-looking ship is getting pulled into a rift! It must’ve cost someone a fortune!” Naughty Dog also retweeted this as well with their own witty comeback. “Uhhhh. . . Sully, didn’t we park the car over there?”
The crossovers aren’t going to be direct interactions between characters in something like the sense of PlayStation All-Star’s Battle Royale. However, these crossovers are coming from one of the weapons in the game that’s a part of Ratchet’s arsenal. Called the Ryno-8, this gun opens dimensional rifts and can be used to fight enemies with items from other worlds. In a video posted by Insomniac, characters are shown using the superpowered weapon, and at the end, the Thunderjaw from the previous tweet can be seen destroying a group of enemies.
However, this hasn’t stopped fans from asking the respective developers for more titles from their favorite franchises, as theories surrounding the inclusion of Sunset Overdrive in the game’s crossovers have got fans thinking about the possibility of the title making its way to PlayStation platforms. Sly Cooper’s addition to the Twitter crossover had fans filling Sucker Punch’s replies with players asking for another entry in the Sly Cooper series as well, as fans want to see the master thief and his band of friends back in action in some capacity.
Whether or not this is the end of the crossover’s in the game is yet to be seen as Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart comes out this Friday, and fans will be waiting to see exactly what the duo has to offer on the new hardware. As well as Sony’s choice to opt-out of the E3 festivities, perhaps PlayStation will bring some big announcements with them as they announce more games throughout the year.
