Pacman Joins OpTic as Head Coach, CDL Season Changes – CoD News Update 01/08/2020
Welcome back to another edition of CoD News Update! Today we’ve got a look at Pacman taking up the position as Head Coach of OpTic, and a reveal of the changes for the 2020 season.
The action is only heating up ahead of the start of the season, so let’s dive on in.
Pacman Powers Up to Head Coach
Pacman’s been an analyst for Activision for the past two years, and while he’s probably never coming back as a player, he has found a new role with OpTic LA.
In a post on their Twitter account, the team revealed that Pacman had been signed as their new head coach for the 2020 season, a move that has been met with a rather mixed response from the community. While many respect Pacman for his long service to the community and his building of the two-time championship roster with Rise Gaming, a good number have expressed concern that he may not draw the respect a head coach needs to be successful. Others have expressed trouble with the allegedly poor analysis he gave on the desk for the last year and whether or not that will carry over to the squad.
We’ll need to wait and see how he holds up once the season gets underway, especially with the new format inbound.
Beyond Pacman joining OpTic LA, the league as a whole had a pretty exciting day yesterday as we finally got a look at the planned changes to the league’s structure for this year.
The launch weekend will have teams play two series to kick off the season, with each winning earn the team 10 CDL points. These points will be given for each win throughout the season, with bonus points also coming in for overall placement at events. Teams will also get a bonus 10 points for each home win, so winning when hosting is going to be incredibly important.
Home events are now going to only feature eight of the league’s 12 teams, with the eight teams split into two groups of four for the initial phase of each event and the top two progressing on to a single-elimination playoff.
There’s still no word on how many home events there are going to be for each team though, given the importance of points, the hope is that each will have an equal amount to earn at.
That’s all the news we have for today everyone, thanks for sticking with us. We’ll be back next time with more exciting CoD news, so stay tuned.
