Overwatch 2 Release Date Likely Delayed Until 2023
Is it true that Overwatch 2 is being delayed until 2023? Well, that’s hard to say, to be honest. Recently, Blizzard said they made a bit of a milestone in development, but according to a leak, things are looking a little bit grim. Blizzard and Overwatch fans have been dying to know more about Overwatch 2 for a while, but it is delayed until maybe 2023 would potentially ruin any hype built up. While there has been info revealed, that release date is still very much a mystery. This latest leak comes from a reliable leaker, Metro, on Twitter. They have a pretty solid track record, making this concerning.
Overwatch 2 Delayed Further?
This isn’t good news for Blizzard if it’s true. Considering the latest lawsuit news and the resulting loss of sponsorships for their esports scene, Overwatch 2 being delayed until 2023 is an unfortunate leak.
Metro admittedly said he hoped what he heard was false because Overwatch 2 could be a blast. Metro had this to say. “I’ve heard from multiple people close to my original source with OW2 that the development is taking longer than expected. From what I can gather a release in 2022 does not seem likely anymore. I hope this is false and I’m proven wrong.”
If Overwatch does get delayed until 2023, this has serious consequences beyond OW2. Consider the fate of Overwatch. There is no way Overwatch will continue to be popular. Major updates for Overwatch are pretty much done it seems like. We already know there won’t be more heroes, for example.
If Overwatch fans have to play the same game more or less for the next year, year and a half, that’s going to be devastating. “That being said, if it turns out to be true, RIP OW no way the game will be alive for another year and a half without major updates.”
The biggest mistake in this development cycle seems to be even announcing it. Announcing a competitive game three or four years before it even being playable seemed like a serious misstep. It was revealed during a time when Blizzard was getting bad press for its Hong Kong reaction. That’s not to say they revealed Overwatch 2 to overcast the bad press. We aren’t suggesting that. But they announced Overwatch 2 and then essentially went radio silent about it. It all feels very silly when it comes to decision-making.
Overwatch 2’s release window leak could be false, though. As always, this is a leak and not a confirmed fact. But with someone that has a long track record of successful leaks, it’s something to consider.
