OnePlus Nord 2 5G Phone To Be Released on July 28

by in General | Jul, 26th 2021

After numerous leaks, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G has finally been made official and, needless to say, it’s quite a handsome looking device with a lot to offer! Whether it’s worth the asking price (between $470 and $600, depending on the SKU) is up for debate.

Regardless, we’re always happy to see new models hit the market as a more varied list of options benefits everyone — the further we are from a monopoly the better!

With all that said, one simply has to wonder whether OnePlus has what it takes to trade blows with so many other Chinese brands (think Xiaomi, POCO, Redmi, etc.), manufacturers who’ve taken over the market in the most dramatic of fashions. They’ve been offering the most mind-blowing products for the lowest prices and we, the consumers, have really been spoiled as a result. No longer does anyone have to spend upwards of $600 to get the latest and greatest specs, the beastly SoCs and eye-popping high refresh rate screens — these things which were once exceptionally rare and could only be found on the best of devices have become the norm.

Moreover, OnePlus, a company that had started this trend way back when, is no longer championing it, and even their mid-tier offerings — like the Nord 2 5G — pale in comparison to some other devices on the market. Just look at the Realme GT, for example, and everything will instantly become clear as day.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G | Well-Rounded Specs

The first thing you’ll see is a beautiful 6.43″ 90Hz AMOLED hole-punch display (FHD+ resolution) with a superbly thin bezel on three of its four sides. As for internals, we’re talking about a fairly solid MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC (supposedly about as powerful as the Snapdragon 870), 6/8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The battery inside is respectably large at 4,500 mAh which should be more than sufficient for an entire day of use. And when it’s time to top it up you’ll be able to use the included 65W charger and go from zero to a hundred in about thirty minutes. The times we live in!

The biggest upgrade is undoubtedly in the camera department as the Nord 2 5G will come equipped with Sony’s IMX766 50-megapixel sensor. There’s a triple camera set-up on the back along with a very respectable 32-megapixel selfie camera located in the upper-left corner of the screen.

If what you’ve read tickles your fancy, you can already put in a pre-order! The phone itself will go on sale on July 28 although you’d be wise to first scour the market before taking the plunge! The Nord 2 5G is undeniably a beautiful phone, but it’s not all that impressive from a price-to-performance standpoint.

The same can be said for OnePlus as a company, too — they no longer have an identity to call their own and have been overtaken by a slew of other, seemingly more capable competitors. It’s quite a saddening thing to behold, especially when compared to the reverence they once enjoyed back when they first broke onto the scene.
