Official Fortnite Circuits are Coming to High Schools and Colleges
Millions of people around the world, in all age groups play Fortnite. There’s no denying how popular it is, and how much money people have made in the Fortnite esports scene. Not everyone agrees that it is, in fact, an esport, though. But if you want to play Fortnite as a high school or college student in a competitive scene? You will soon be able to do just that.
How Can You Join?
If that’s not cool enough, the first events will be free to play, provided you’re registered with PlayVS direct. This will be official competitive Fortnite circuits for high school and college students, which is awesome. But how do you join?
Schools that want to compete will be placed in regional conferences based on geographic location. The matches will be in the duo system, and there is no limit to the number of teams that each school can register. That’s good news. Now, as many people that want to join in can.
The preseason practice will begin on February 17. The actual season will start on February 24, with the top teams moving on to the playoffs. From there, the May championship match will have only the best of the best.
Things are a little different for the college players. February 26 is the final registration date, but you should probably not wait till the last minute. Another thing to note is that using PlayVS will let you participate on any device that allows Fortnite.
Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, all of these are options. However, you do have to be on an educational campus network, and a coach must be present. I don’t know what a coach does in Fortnite, though. It’s much too fast-paced for that, in my opinion.
I will say though that this partnership does not surprise me all that much. Epic Games teaming up with PlayVS is smart, and it shows that they do want to build the competitive aspect of their Battle Royale game. This could be a path to the pros as well.
In 2019 alone, $100 million in prizes were doled out across several competitions. The first-ever Fortnite World Cup took place in July, with Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf claiming $3 million in the Solos competition. That is unreal. Now I will say, don’t expect to be the next Bugha.
But it’s important to have goals, and to work hard at them. Make sure if you’re down to compete, that you go to your high school or college institution and let them know about these incredible Fortnite circuits!
