Nintendo To Turn Old Factory into Museum in 2024

Nintendo is a company with a massive history, originally making toys, playing, and hanafuda cards, Nintendo then changed focus into electronic games, with the rest becoming history. Now Nintendo aims to unearth this history and show it all to the public, using one of their Kyoto factories to open a massive Nintendo History Museum for the occupants of its home country in Japan.

What is the Nintendo Gallery?

Nintendo announced the “Nintendo Gallery” in a press release earlier on June 2nd, 2021. Their aim is to make a way to show off the companies many products, as well as the philosophy behind Nintendo’s creative decisions. However, the discussion behind the company’s decision has been ongoing, and the locale has finally been set. Nintendo’s Uji Ogura Plant, which was built in 1969 will become the place where Nintendo will begin construction on the project. Nintendo’s reasoning according to the press release is as follows.

“The Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant was built in 1969, and was known as the “Uji Plant.” The name of the facility changed to “Uji Ogura Plant” in 1988, after the construction, extension, and renovation of the current Uji Plant (Makishima-Cho, Uji-city, Kyoto). The Uji Ogura Plant has been used to manufacture both playing cards and Hanafuda cards, and it also operated as a customer service center for product repairs. Discussion of how to use the Uji Ogura Plant began after these functions were transferred to the current Uji Plant in November 2016.”

With Nintendo being the massive international company as it is, it’s no surprise that starting some kind of museum to show off their history as a company is something they would want to do. However, anyone who’s wanting to visit the gallery will have to wait a few years, as Nintendo is aiming to open the gallery in 2024.
