Nintendo Switch Pro Coming Sooner Than Expected

by in General | May, 27th 2021

A slew of online reports (most of which are pretty credible in nature) have surfaced online and they all state the exact same thing: the Nintendo Switch Pro will see the light of day far sooner than anyone had expected. How soon, you might ask? We’re talking months at this point, with a September release date being on the table as well.

The Nintendo Switch Pro — or Super Nintendo Switch — will almost surely retail for over $299, per Bloomberg’s report. Such a thing was to be expected, given the many hardware upgrades (both inward and outward) we’ve been hearing about for months. We’re talking about a 7″ OLED display (supposedly manufactured by Samsung), an updated SoC from NVIDIA that’ll support DLSS (and 4K upscaling while docked), a more potent CPU, more memory, and potentially something else as well.

These are all hugely exciting upgrades and they should, by all means, allow Nintendo to compete more easily with Sony and Microsoft going forward. These companies don’t have the exact same target audience, of course, but by imbuing the Nintendo Switch Pro with more potent internals, it’ll be able to deliver a much more enjoyable gaming experience. It’ll still pale in comparison to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X, but the gap won’t be as pronounced as it is right now — in no small part because of NVIDIA’s DLSS.

An Official Reveal Is Imminent

If the rumor mill is to be believed, Nintendo will announce the Switch Pro in just a couple of weeks. Moreover, some folks are claiming that the whole reveal might transpire in the next day or two, although that seems somewhat less likely. Nintendo supposedly wants to announce the oh-so-exciting Switch Pro prior to E3 so that developers can freely showcase their work in mid-June. Whether things will actually go down that way still remains to be seen.

In any case, we won’t have to wait long to find out!
