Fortnite YouTube Streamer Nickeh30 Moves to Twitch
It seems like the streaming turf wars have begun. Nickeh30 has now joined Ninja in leaving his old streaming platform for a new one, departing his long-time and successful home on YouTube for Twitch.
The streaming superstar, one of YouTube’s biggest names, announced in a video on Twitter his move to the platform, though noted he’d continue to upload videos to his YouTube channel.
The move will allow him to take advantage of additional income from Twitch subscribers, more ways to donate with bits, and a much easier time pushing his presence, especially as he’s likely to be one of the largest Fortnite streamers on the platform.
Fan Reaction
The reaction from his fanbase was almost universally positive, with many excited to see their favorite content creator find a bigger home on Twitch.
Many had initially expressed concern over whether they’d still be able to catch his edited content now that he’s away from YouTube. However, those fears were put to rest when Nickeh30 stated that he’d still be making video content on the site but just wouldn’t be streaming there.
While that fear was put to rest, a small minority has spoken out over their disappointment with the move, with several accusing the streamer of making a move solely for the money.
Others spoke out about their difficulties utilizing Twitch, which has had a history of being a bit more of a resource hog than YouTube. Many of these fans saying they wouldn’t be following his stream over to Twitch and would solely be watching his YouTube content.
Still, though, the numbers lost seem to be making minimal impact. Currently, Nickeh30 has already reached over 170 thousand followers on Twitch, a pretty good number for someone who hasn’t streamed yet. His first stream is set for an unannounced time on September 1st.
For their part, YouTube handled the move incredibly professionally, especially compared to Twitch’s handling of Ninja leaving their platform, with the company’s head of Gaming and Virtual Reality Ryan Wyatt congratulating Nickeh30 on Twitter.
The exact details of the exclusivity deal are currently unclear, though will likely be leaked over the coming days.
