Activision has revealed that the next update for Call of Duty Modern Warfare will be a very important one for a certain group of dedicated players. The upcoming patch will finally fix the max level bug that many max level players have been dealing with lately.

Next Update to Fix Game-Breaking Max Level Bug

There was a player who posted their issues with this bug on Twitter today and, thankfully, they received an official response from developer Infinity Ward who addressed the problem. Twitter user Criiss_999 posed a simple question directly to the co-design director of multiplayer Joe Cecot.

The user noted that they haven’t been able to play the game at all for the past three days (at the time of tweeting). This happened after the user reached 98 officer rank challenges. When the user tries to log back into the game again, it will crash every single time they launch the online shooter.

This is a bizarre but game-breaking max level bug that the user is dealing with. In hopes of getting an answer, the user asked when the bug would be fixed because they are “dying to come back in the fight.” Thankfully, the Twitter user actually received a response directly from Joe Cecot.

The director of multiplayer noted that the “next update should fix [it].” He also said that it is in the work right now but there is no exact time for now. This is no surprise really since the most recent update for the game just released a short while ago.

That was a pretty large update for the game so it should come as no surprise that the next one might take a while. This max level bug could be a significant problem as well so it could take some time for the solution to be figured out.

What This Bug Is All About

How the bug seems to work is that it affects seemingly only those players who have reached the max level in the entire multiplayer game at this time. Modern Warfare uses an interesting method of dealing with its level and progression system that is far different from the prestige system of previous titles in the franchise.

Instead of allowing players to reset their level, progression, and items back to level one upon reaching the max level, it opts for a different set up. Players are able to reach the max level of 55 traditionally and never actually lose any of the progression from those 55 levels.

Players are able to then level up beyond the initial 55 levels using the officer ranks. These are the new features in the game that more closely resemble the prestige leveling system from previous games. These 100 officer ranks or so are based on the current season that the game is in.

In this case, we are in season one and there are a good number of officer ranks for players to enjoy once they have reached level 55 in multiplayer. There are plenty of special rewards and other goodies that players can get from progressing through the officer ranks that are available.

When season two for the game drops in the future, every player will have their officer rank reset back to the traditional max level of 55. They will then have more officer ranks and rewards to unlock throughout the course of that season.

Since Modern Warfare has been out for a couple of weeks now, players are already getting to the max in the current season’s officer ranks. These players are finding a game-breaking bug that is keeping them from being able to play the game anymore due to consistent crashes when logging in.

This is something that is affecting just about every player who has reached the max officer rank, including streamers whose jobs are all about playing the game online for their viewers. Thankfully, there is a fix on the way; the question now is just when will it be?

Since Modern Warfare update 1.07 just dropped a few days ago, our guess is that we won’t likely see anything for the max level bug fix this week. We could see something this week but we wouldn’t expect anything until next week at the earliest. Be sure to stay tuned here for any updates regarding that in the near future.
