New York Subliners Finally Surpass Dallas Empire in Florida Home Series
The Call of Duty League Stage 4 competition is going on right now. It is heating up with some intense matches, especially with the Florida Mutineers Home Series. The second week of competition saw some fantastic matches, like the New York Subliners and Dallas Empire match.
The competition is getting more fierce by the week since the season will come to a close soon. The fourth stage is more than halfway done now, and there is only one more stage left after that before we get to the playoffs.
Players interested in checking out any of the battles that happened over the past weekend during the Florida Mutineers Home Series can watch them on-demand on the Call of Duty League YouTube channel. Otherwise, you can find the results, including the wild New York Subliners and Dallas Empire match.
Florida Home Series Results: Day 1
It all began on the first day, in which we had the first two matches of the event. The Home Series kicked off, with the first match being the Seattle Surge and Atlanta FaZe. For the most part, Activision kept most of the exciting matches for later on in the Florida Home Series, as seen here.
Seattle and Atlanta is not exactly an exciting match, given how the Surge is currently the worst team in the league. Atlanta is the best team around, so it was not that close at all. FaZe tore through the Surge and wrapped this one up in a pretty swift game time overall.
Though it was a lot closer than it should have been in the case of Hardpoint and especially the 11th round Search and Destroy game, Atlanta did not falter in the end and destroyed Seattle in one of the quickest rounds of Control that we have ever seen to win this one 3-0.
The second match was not much different, with the Dallas Empire taking on the Los Angeles Guerrillas. With the signing of Vivid to the roster, Dallas has found some improvements after the dips that we have seen for the team lately and came out in full force.
Vivid showed off why it was a mistake that the Guerrillas moved their star player to the bench. The team dominated all three game modes in an unmatched way to win the second sweep of the day, the Florida Home Series.
Day 2 Results
The second day of the Florida Mutineers Home Series kicked off with two more matches of the total 10. These were more interesting than the first day’s double sweeps, especially when it comes to the most shocking upset during the event.
The first matchup was the Paris Legion vs. the Los Angeles Thieves. The Thieves have TJHaLy back on the roster. We expected the team to dominate this one, returning to the former glory that the team was experiencing leading up to the signing of world champ Huke.
But it seems that the changes with Paris, coupled with the strange place that LA is in right now, led to a shocking outcome for this match. The Thieves came out of the gate swinging and won a decently close game of Hardpoint to start the first round.
This was expected, but what was unexpected was how the Paris Legion showed up in full force in the Search and Destroy game on Raid to win this one rather easily 6-3. And then Control is something that the Thieves are great at, but Paris matched them here and then won it 3-2.
And then came Hardpoint once more, but on the complicated Apocalypse map. Here, Paris could stand out once more in this fantastic showing for the team to win this one against the Thieves in the week’s biggest upset with a 3-1 victory.
This was followed up afterward with the closest match thus far, with the Florida Mutineers taking on the New York Subliners. This was Florida’s series, but they were unable to stop the Subliners in the end. Despite some very strong respawn modes for Florida, they were unable to do much in Search & Destroy and narrowly lost Hardpoint to lose this one to the Subliners 3-2.
Day 3 Results
For the third day of the Florida Home Series, there were three matches. First up was the London Royal Ravens vs. the Toronto Ultra. The Ultra is not the undefeated team they once were, but that does not mean they are not the top team still.
They showed that here in this match, they destroyed London 3-0 for the third sweep of the event. Next up was a supposed marquee match with the Paris Legion taking on OpTic Chicago. Paris Legion did, admittedly, put up some fight, but they were unable to topple the return of OpTic in this 3-1 victory for Chicago.
The third day concluded with the match between Minnesota Rokkr and Seattle Surge. Even as a fan of the Rokkr, I had noted that they are the most inconsistent team in the league at times, but they did not fail when they needed this easy victory.
Though the Seattle Surge gave some fight to win a single round and almost won other ones, Minnesota dominated with a 3-1 much-needed win for this team.
Day 4 Results
The fourth and final day of the event ended with three matches of wildly different scales, but all were fun in their ways. First up was the Florida Mutineers taking on the LA Guerrillas. This was their series. They were coming off of a defeat in the very close Subliners match.
That said, this is still the return of Florida to greatness. They showed it here in this match that was only marginally close at times. Florida narrowly won the first Hardpoint round but dominated in the Search and Destroy, but was then surprisingly defeated 3-0 in Control.
But then Florida came back around and won a decently close game of Hardpoint on Raid to win the match 3-1. From there, we came to the next match of Atlanta FaZe and the LA Thieves. We are unsure what is going on with the Thieves, but this was an extremely easy victory for Atlanta.
It was much easier, honestly, than it should have been with a somewhat close Hardpoint round at first, but then unstoppable performances from Atlanta in Search and Destroy and Control. In the end, Atlanta could win a very fast 3-0 sweep to win its group in this stage essentially.
Overall, the week was alright with a few standout matches but not much else. However, we ended on the best match of the week and easily the best one on the stage thus far: the New York Subliners and Dallas Empire match. This was a rivalry in the making since the 2021 season for the Call of Duty League started.
With the tragic release of Clayster as the only initial current champ to be kicked from the Dallas Empire roster, he joined New York. They have been consistently improving over time. That said, every match against Dallas up until this point (albeit early in the season) has ended in losses, and rarely were they even close.
So, this New York Subliners and Dallas Empire match was very important, and it did not disappoint. The first round kicked off with Hardpoint in a pretty close one that New York could secure in the end. Then we came to Search and Destroy, where Dallas Empire showed better signs, in the end, winning this one 6-3 in a pretty dominant fashion.
Then we came to Control, which seemed necessary for both teams to win this game in the end, and it was a wild one on Garrison, with Dallas Empire narrowly winning it in the end. Then we returned to Hardpoint, where New York unsurprisingly won this one to tie it up 2-2.
The problem, of course, was the fifth round with Search and Destroy once more, but this time on Standoff instead of Raid. Dallas did extremely well in the last S&D round, making it seem like this would be a clean victory for the Empire once more here.
However, while it did go in favor of Dallas, the second half saw the Subliners come through in some surprising rounds to continuously win until the end with a victory that saw them take this very close match 3-2.
New York Subliners Are a Championship-Worthy Team
The New York Subliners and Dallas Empire match was extremely crucial to both teams, and the victory for the Subliners is a meaningful one. Obviously, for Clayster and the Subliners, this was the moment where they needed to prove that they were better than Dallas at this point.
But it was important for Dallas, too, as a struggling team and seemed to be making a comeback. For New York to win when Dallas is seemingly better again, this proves once and for all that the New York Subliners is a championship-worthy team this season.
They are, without a doubt, worthy of the second-place position that they have, and they have effectively replaced the Empire as the second-best team this year. That was the role that Dallas had last year where they were able to win the championship in the end because of it, despite Atlanta being the number one team for most of the season.
We could see a repeat of that this year, but with the New York Subliners being the new Dallas Empire. This was the final test of sorts for the Subliners. They have passed it, showing that they are the team to watch this season alongside Atlanta FaZe and the Toronto Ultra.
Current Call of Duty League Standings
Before we head into the next event in Stage 4 of the 2021 season, it is important to look back at the standings after this week’s events. There weren’t too many changes this week, but there were some foundations laid for some crazy changes that could happen soon.
You can find the full league standings at this time below:
- Atlanta FaZe: 380 points
- New York Subliners: 270 points
- Dallas Empire: 250
- Toronto Ultra; 245
- OpTic Chicago: 220
- Los Angeles Thieves: 180
- Minnesota Rokkr: 160
- Florida Mutineers: 150
- Los Angeles Guerrillas: 90
- London Royal Ravens: 70
- Paris Legion: 70
- Seattle Surge: 50
There are not many changes, but you can see the possibilities for some soon. For instance, there is the chance that we could see Toronto finally overtake Dallas as the third-best team in the league soon and a similar situation with Minnesota having the chance to beat out the Thieves in the end.
Then there are the bottom four teams that are so close to one another that a single week could see some huge shifts. And then there are the groups themselves. There is only one more week left in the stage before the Major. The group standings are nearly set now.
Group A is pretty much done at this point, with Atlanta FaZe being the winner, in the end, most likely, but the question remains who will join them in the upper bracket for the Major? Chicago and Minnesota look like they will be the ones, but we could see some surprising comebacks from the Thieves, so it is unknown for now.
Meanwhile, Group B is the group of death and uncertainties as we have some close fights here. The top four teams are so close to one another that it is anyone’s game right now. New York is the only undefeated team thus far, but Florida and Toronto are just behind them.
Then there is the Dallas Empire with two wins and two losses. If they can get one more win, they will be very close to the other teams’ results, too. For Group B, the final week of group play in the LA Thieves Home Series will be a very important moment for the next Major, so be sure to stay tuned for our preview and predictions of it soon.
