New World Economy Disabled Yet Again, Due to Cheaters
The New World economy suffers yet another setback and was disabled again. This is the fourth duplication bug like this found in two months – at least. There may even be more we haven’t seen yet. The reveal was posted on the New World forums, and to say that players are furious is a complete understatement. Why was the New World economy disabled again? This time it was because of a trophy duplication bug! As a result, all forms of wealth transfer between players are disabled while this is investigated. It’s unfortunate, but these problems simply don’t seem to be going away. What’s going on, and why is it a real problem for the young MMO?
Wealth Transfer Disabled in New World Yet Again
Of course, the community is furious about this, demanding, hoping to see harsh punishments doled out to everyone caught up in this scam. Let’s be clear, it’s definitely a scam. However, there’s fear that not much is going to be done. It’s being said that the previous dupe abusers were only banned for 24 hours. Many others were never banned in the first place. Here’s what the Community Manager, Tosch had to say on the forums:
“We are aware of a possible duplication exploit that has been circulating the forums and social media. We are disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players (ie. sending currency, guild treasury, trading post, player to player trading) while we investigate. Any player that has engaged in the use of this exploit will be actioned against. Once the duplication exploit has been investigated and we are ready to turn on wealth transfer again, we will update this post. Thank you for your understanding.”
It’s incredibly hard to take this seriously, with what we’ve seen in the game so far. Repeated duplication/gold duplication bugs, people openly using invincibility glitches, and worse still. A Reddit thread has demanded a permaban for these people because otherwise, they won’t stop abusing the game. One user made a very clear example of what the problem here is.
We are aware of an exploit and have disabled all forms of wealth transfer between players. We are working to improve our response time and will stay vigilant against players who violate our ToS.

Please read this update on how we are taking action.https://t.co/WcWDeOmKgD
This person, “SpeaksTheTruth2020” has two friends in real life that were duping things back when server transfers first opened. They brought roughly 3M coins into the economy across two weeks and sold it for about 7K USD. Neither of them is banned and did this through Family Share. So when Family Share was disabled, these accounts got grandfathered in. These two players have eight legit licenses each for the game and were never banned. They in fact, made a profit off of cheating.
Other Redditors say that if the dupers haven’t been banned, it’s already too late. This user pointed out a duper gave them a weapon three years ago and they’re still using it. These dupers almost always have alternate accounts, filled with all sorts of dupes hidden away, to use/sell later. So if things aren’t resolved soon, it could spell disaster for New World, thanks to having its economy disabled yet again. It sounds like New World has a way to track what’s being done, but nobody in the community believes it.
This particular duplication trick isn’t for gold or weapons, but furniture. It allows players to duplicate any piece of furniture in the game infinitely. That way, you can infinitely copy the rarest furniture pieces in the game, and sell them for money. This also lets them duplicate trophies, which offer useful passive bonuses. These players become far more powerful, thanks to cheating. This is a problem that has gone on long enough in New World. So yes, New World has posted a message again and disabled the economy while they work on it, but this is far from the first time. Another user in this thread, “dscs_” isn’t convinced, saying the MMO’s economy is broken beyond repair. That, or other duplication tricks are going to come in the future:
“Gold (and items) is FUNGIBLE. If I dupe 100k gold, then give that 100k gold to a second account that has 100k legitimate gold, then he launders that 200k g, how do you determine which of the 100kg he traded was the legitimate stuff, and which the duped gold? You might say, he has illegitimate gold, just ban them. Idiotic. How do you prove he knew the gold was illegitimate? If you launder on the AH, how the hell does anyone purchasing know it’s duped materials they’re buying, or duped gold they’re receiving? Then, this compounds for every single transaction this gold goes through. Within hours, duped gold may have already changed hands a dozen times.”
We’ll just have to keep our eyes on New World and see what comes as a result, but we aren’t convinced that more duplication or gold tricks won’t come in the near future. We will keep you up to date as this story develops, but we have a feeling there will be yet another disabling coming in our future.
