NetherRealm is Not for Sale, Says Warner Bros. Amidst Merger with Discovery

by in General | Jul, 13th 2021

Companies have been going through mergers a lot in the past few years, with mega-corporation Disney swallowing up Lucasfilms and 20th Century Fox within the last few years. Now, it looks like Warner Bros. is going to be merging with another Media Company, Discovery. This is the same company behind the famous Shark Week, and the channel of the same name, however, amidst the merger between the two companies, information leaked that Warner Bros. is going to be selling off two of their prized gaming companies in their gaming division of Warner Media. Both of these companies being TT games, those behind the Lego games, as well as NetheRrealm Studios, the developers of Injustice and Mortal Kombat being a part of the sale.

Where Did These Rumors Come From?

Last Week, these rumors came to light due to a podcast from Xbox Two, where one of the hosts Jez Corden claimed to have seen some internal documents from Warner Media that the company was looking to cut the leash on the two developers, selling them off to another company who would be in control of both developers. Although, the rumors were squashed by Warner Themselves when they made an official statement to TheGamer.

“I can confirm NetherRealm Studios and TT Games will continue to remain a part of Warner Bros. Games, and all are included in the Warner Media Discovery merger.”

So NetherRealm Studios and TT games aren’t a part of the sale and aren’t going to be leaving Warner Media anytime soon, and for good reason as well. Since NetherRealm has been on a roll with their last few games, with Mortal Kombat 11 selling above expectations, as well as the release of the DLC content for the game, letting players take on fights with one another as RoboCop and the Terminator.

However, with NetherRealm stopping support for Mortal Kombat 11, it looks like they’re going to need all the help they can get for their next project, which remains to be seen. There are some possibilities for the company’s next move, and staying with Warner Media opens a lot of doors in the coming future.
